Go they even grant the rights to them anymore, now that CRAZY FOR YOU has come along?

well that's what i was wondering. but we did a scene from it last year in our revue and had to get rights.
but maybe crazy for you is the third because it's just 'updated' girl crazy, so the '50's thing would be satisfied? i don't know.
Could the Lerner and Lowe show be Gigi? Songs not written for the stage, never revived, Paris setting, not a heavy dance show...
What songs from GIGI were not originally intended for the show?

Well, Gigi was a movie before it was a stage show so maybe that's the "twist."
Maybe, but GIGI opened on Broadway in the 1970's, and the movie came out in the late 1950's. I don't see how that qualifies.
The songs from Gigi were not written for the stage version. They were written for the film.
Right, I got that much, but the film did not come out before 1950.
My best guesses are BRIGADOON and GIRL CRAZY.
munk you are SO into this! credits go to you for sticking through this one.
Yes, but Gigi was not "produced on Broadway" until 1973.
Sueleen, the Music Man was made in the late 50s, so that's the one that came after. Both of the other shows have to have been produced on Broadway before 1950. So that's why it can't be Gigi.
I too figured on Brigadoon, but I was having trouble w/ the other as well.
At least out of the Music Man and Brigadoon, I personally would so much rather do Brigadoon.
Oh, okay, I got ya. I never liked Gigi anyway.
STATE FAIR? It was never revived because it was never performed on Broadway, just as a movie. But the performing version has additional songs that werent in the movie.

I'm probably way off:
Sunset Blvd
Kiss Me Kate
Edit: Did someone say: Miracle on 34th Street
I think theyre right about BRIGADOON. My other hunch is SHOW BOAT or even possibly OF THEE I SING.
Sorry -- accidental double post.
But SHOW BOAT has been revived...
OF THEE I SING just seemed...odd for a school to do.
It's a Gershwin score on a now-topical subject. I could see it.
And there's really nothing "odd" about it: it's a simple little 30s musical about politics and the presidency. High schools and colleges are about the only places we would see things like this performed anymore.
SHOW BOAT? Still fulfills the list -- remember, only one of the three *hasnt* been revived.
The only movie musicals that starred Shirlie Jones are OKLAHOMA, CAROUSEL, and THE MUSIC MAN . All could be considered dance musicals, the first two are pre-1950, all take place in the USA and all have been revived on Broadway (if you count Lincoln Center as "Broadway).
Gypsy--notice the clues said only *one* movie starred Shirley Jones. That's the Music Man. So it can't be Oklahoma or Carousel. Besides that, if we agree on Brigadoon, the third one can't be one that's been made into a movie.
Another reason it can't be showboat.
And it also can't be SHOWBOAT because it said only one show has not been revived - BRIGADOON and THE MUSIC MAN were both revived on several occasions.
I think you're missing the point.
Shirley Jones was in one of the movie musicals.
It is definite that one of the musicals is THE MUSIC MAN.
Therefore, the movie of one of the three musicals starred Shirley Jones, hence, THE MUSIC MAN.
The Shirley Jones criteria is out. We've got her covered.
So we're looking for pre-1950, non-dance, no movie, no revival, set in the US?
I was thinking Babes in Arms but that fails the no movie criteria...
I wonder if your teacher got a few of the bullet points muddled up.
