42ND STREET!
Yes, It was awsome! I was forgetting how good it was! Last time I saw it was when it came out!
I wanna say thanks to the 2 people who said I need a Gov't ID and they only sell one ticket per person. Beacuse they DON'T do any of that!!!!
Anyway, I really loved the show. Went to the matinee and got front row seats (couldn't get any better than that!). Shirley Jones, Patrick Cassidy, Nadine Isenegger, Patti Mariano, Brad Aspel... all were wonderful! The only cast member who wasn't there was David Elder (Billy)- Kevin Worley filled in. Kevin was actually pretty good! Shirley Jones had a nice voice. Some songs I don't think she could handle. Patrick Cassidy- great actor & singer! I was surprised beacuse someone from the board on here didn't like his perf. and said he seemed mean in the show- I think he was perfect for the role- he did great. Nadine Isenegger was GOOD as Peggy Sawyer. I think the orginal Kate Levering is the best though. Patti Mariano (Maggie Jones) was perfect. She was very funny!
I've notcied a couple changes from the orginal. I thought when Julian Marsh kisses Peggy that that was at the end? But it was in the beginning of the 2nd Act. And he implys that he likes her when they're in the "dressing room"- that I don't belive was in the show when I first saw it. I noticed a couple other little things to.
I have one question about 42nd Street... whats the point of the man dressed in black stealing all the ladies jewlery and purse?
I found out where the stage door was about 10 mins after the show! Most of the actors were gone when I got there! I did however, meet Nadine (Peggy Sawyer). She was very nice and signed my program. I also met a ensemble member- I'll have to get back to you with the name! We waited for Shirly Jones but people that work backstage said she needed to take a nap. Patrick Cassidy went to walk his dog after the show and when he came back he practically ran in the stage door so I didn't get the chance to meet him.
I really had a good time and I know I'm going to miss the show when it goes. I recommend you guys seeing it before it closes in January!

Glad you liked it ChristineDaae!!
Am I the only one who didn't like it?? I thought the story was so played out-- there's so many shows about small town girl going to big city and falling in love. Maybe that's why I didn't like TMM either... but that's just my opinion.

I avoided it just because of the big ol' catfight that went on between the original set designer and the revival set designer. I really thought Wagner and Walton were above such nonsense.

Posted: 7/8/04 at 6:10pmWell, I liked 42nd Steet and I had a blast when I saw it. I saw Tom Wopat and he was very good as Julian Marsh (I prefer him over Michael Cumpsty on the original cast).

I didn't like 42nd Street either.
And sorry for the misinformation, ChristineDaae. Every website I found with rush policies stated that you need 2 IDs and that they sell only 1 ticket per person. Check out Talkin' Broadway and Playbill if you don't believe me.

Posted: 7/8/04 at 8:11pmI saw Patrick Cassidy in EFX here in Las Vegas several years ago and I thought he was wonderful!! And, I got to meet him backstage. He was so nice and totally unassuming. I didn't realise it was him until he was introduced. Anyway, I'd love to see this production. Thanks for the information!

Posted: 7/8/04 at 11:20pmI've always enjoyed 42nd Street on CD and in amateur productions. I consider it one of the great older musicals. But I really didn't enjoy the Broadway production. The talent was all fine, and nothing was glaringly wrong with it. I just couldn't help but feel like I had wasted my precious Broadway money on something unnecessary. I'm sure it has something to do with the fact that I've seen probably 8 other productions of the show. Since this was Broadway, I was expecting to be blown away and to fall in love with the show all over again. Neither happened. Such is life.

Posted: 7/9/04 at 1:49amThe choreography is fantastic...I saw it after 9/11 when they had the cheap industry seats. Only thing I was disappointed in was the very pitchy Julian Marsh.

Posted: 7/9/04 at 10:02amI like 42nd St. because I'm a tap dancer and I love big production type shows, especially ones with lots of tap. Given that 42nd St. is among the only surviving at this point in time, I paid it a visit last week. Can't say I enjoyed it as much as times in the past. Perhaps because my first visit came early on in my theater loving days, it was only the fourth Broadway show I saw. Since then, I've come to enjoy a lot of different shows that struggle to succeed in a world supportive of plotless, mind-numbing productions like this. Yes, that may be harsh, and I know that not everyone is going to have the same cup of tea, but let's just say I'm taking the whole closing of The Normal Heart, soon to be closing of Assassins and probably soon to be closing of Caroline or Change kind of hard. Really starting to frustrate me that shows like 42nd St. can fill massive size houses and run for years when shows with substance can't even run six months. Call me bitter, I know I am. But again, not to say I hate 42nd St., I don't, I think we need shows like that. I'm just worried it's becoming the fate of theater as we know it.

I love this show and this production. I saw it early in its run and again at the end of April. I thought the show was in fine shape. Nadine was out that night, but her understudy did a good job.
I made my professional debut in "42nd Street (stock) ages ago, and seeing this production brought back wonderful memories. I'll have to admit that the opening number brought tears to my eyes (I know, that's corny).
