>>>Maybe Hugh would come to Broadway in the revival...<<<
I think his next Broadway thing is either Leap of Faith or Pal Joey.

Danielm---I think you misunderstood me. Sky Masterson is the leading male character who sings most of the male solos in Guys & Dolls. Robert Alda played it in the original. It needs a crooner to work these suave, romantic, jazzy songs the right way. Hugh Jackman's voice is bold, brash, bright and often strident, even though it's a solid, trained voice. Fine for many roles. But in this case, it would be the equivalent of Ethel Merman barreling her way through "Sentimental Journey." And NO, I don't think that's a very good fit. Hence my “nails on a chalkboard” comment.
I was pondering Vin as Nathan Detroit, the other male lead in Guys & Dolls, and virtually a non-singing role, with the exception of his featured duet with Adelaide, "Sue Me." Sam Levene played this part originally in New York, and charmed and joked his way through the whole show without hitting nary a note on key. He was tone deaf.
So... two different parts, and two different comments. You lumped them together into one comment about one of the roles. Sorry if it was confusing to you.

Am I the only one who'd love to see Hugh as Nathan rather than Sky? You need someone younger, rasher, less ... genial than Hugh to be Sky, I think. I once heard the randomest of random rumours that Hugh Jackman and Guy Pearce were up for it. If Pearce could do the whole singing thing (anyone know anything about his pipes?), then I really would rate Hugh as Nathan and Pearce as Sky (and me as both female leads pls). ^_^
All this Vin Diesel talk is scaring the crap out of me. ;_;

No, I don't particularly like the idea of Vin as Nathan either. He's fairly humorless and heavy-handed. Not good traits for Nathan Detroit. Sexy as hell, though. My point is that at least that role doesn't demand any sort of singer to pull it off.
My GUESS is that Vin isn't any sort of singer. Just a hunch there, no proof either way. I'm kinda curious though, since he seems to be "in" to this show with a passion, for whatever reason.
Actually, he could be a great Big Jule, as has been suggested.
I'd rather see someone like David Schwimmer in the part of Nathan.

Hmmm ... I'm not a huge David Schwimmer fan, but I can actually picture him as Nathan. It's a really decent fit, actually. (In my mind, at least...) But who would play Adelaide against him?

>>>Miramax of course optioned the rights to this film around the time they were big into musicals after CHICAGO. I'm not sure who kept the rights in the "divorce" - Disney or the Weinsteins<<<
It is quite likely that Disney kept the rights and that this is going to be part of Hugh's 3-movie-musicals picture deal with DISNEY.

Can Hugh croon?
*"No One is Alone" duet with Australian Debra Byrne
*The "my-little-girl..." part of SOLILOQUY from Carousel
*"All the lives of me" from TBFO
*And he did croon the first lines of LUCK BE A LADY to TODAY'S Katie Couric ( lucky lady
) when they were at the golf course during the hotel's inauguration ( where Hugh performed the exclusive inaugural show).

I never, ever thought of Hugh as Sky but that actually might work pretty well.
No Renee Zellweger. Kay thanks.
Is there really a need or a reason to bring this back? I love Guys and Dolls, I do it's one of my favorites, but it's such a classic musical that everybody knows I don't think even huge fans of the stars would make it a big success. Obviously, a good director would be needed to stop it from being a flop but there's something that tells me it just wouldn't...work.
