What does it mean when they say "...and he's still lifting platinum folderol?" in the song Guys and Dolls??? THANKS!

I always took it to mean stealing, but specifically pick pocketing. (I have no idea if I'm correct though.)

"Folderol" is Loesser/Runyon slang for jewelry. The whole song is about how guys who are in love do things that they wouldn't ordinarily do.

So the "mug" (guy) recently out of "the jug" (jail), should be staying away from crime, but because he's in love, he's still shoplifting platinum jewelry.

Why? You can bet that he's doing it for some doll.

I always thought it was "plat'num and folderol," as in "platinum and other trivial items."

Yup. Folderal is da collection of da odds and ends, like da contents youze get back in a maniller envelope when youze bail out of da housgow.
