....so you know the Gypsy of the Year has been postponed. They've put a really cool thing up on the website where you can donate in the name of a certain show just as if you were at the show buying a signed poster or whatever during this time of year. (The shows compete to see which one can raise the most money for BC/EFA.) So I decided to donate in the name of Curtains 'cause I thought that was a really cute show. It had only raised $547.00 so far out of their $15,000.00 goal! I was devasted. It just hit me (again) the toll that the strike is having on the fundrasing efforts this year. I realize it just started today, but even a monster hit like Wicked only has $360.00!!! Please go and donate whatever you can to this wonderful charity. It's fun that you can pick your favorite show. Of course, you can also go to Rob's post at the top of the board for a link to another article with a link to the BC/EFA store.

Whistle Down the Wind - $100
Wicked (Los Angeles) - $0.00
Wicked (Chicago) - $0.00
Wicked (Emerald City) - $0.00
These are the numbers I found depressing:
Every week of fundraising lost to the strike is a loss of over $350,000 to BC/EFA.
Last year's GYPSY OF THE YEAR fundraising raised over $3 million.
Revenue usually raised from the in-theatre appeals prior to The GYPSY OF THE YEAR Competition makes up over 20% of our annual budget.
Are those totals solely for internet donations? Because I can tell you that in the two times I've been to Xanadu during collections I've spent at least $100 total, so there's no way that is representing the total for shows which are actually running now. So yes, its depressing, but not AS depressing as it looks, I don't think.

It's only online donations. And Legally Blonde is now at $55.00!!!
Yes, that represents the online donations. Very depressing for the shows that are closed and the overall fundraising efforts. The online "competition" just started so hopefully it will catch on. That's really cool, bythewords84, that you bought all that stuff at Xanadu!!
Go Curtains!

I'm a bit of a bc/efa donation time sucker...
Ha! Me too! I have so many signed items -- especially posters and Christmas ornaments. My mother forgot my 42nd Street poster, signed by the cast, in a cab one year at Thanksgiving, and she was more upset than me. She went back to the theatre the next day and got me another one! A good cause, she said, so she didn't mind the double donation. Oh...it makes me sad now thinking about that...

I'm a sucker for underdogs, so i had to pick a show that was at 0 to donate to. Frankenstein got this week's donation.
$0.00 For Chicago's Altar Boyz can't be right!!
I donated $10 last time I was there :) I'll have to do some online donations for NYC though...

The numbers are only for online donations. In theatre donations are counted separately.
Oh ok, makes sense.
Those with Facebook accounts can raise money just by joining the BCEFA charity on there and then inviting others to join, or you can donate through that too....

I just did the math. If every show gets their goal, BC/EFA will still only make about what they would normally make in a week and a half. So sad.

Thanks for the donation, MotorTink (I'm Frankenstein's fundraising coordinator). We weren't able to start collecting from the beginning, but our audiences have been generous and we're doing quite well relative to our house size. It's just a small contribution relative to all the money being lost from the Broadway shows, though.

Bah! I've already donated through the web-store and through Team Avenue Q. I also plan on giving in person to Altar Boyz Chicago this Friday. Stop making me feel guilty!
i just joined hairspray's team. i usually do a few walks with similar online fundraising platforms so Im hoping I can raise some money.
Chris -
I think this should be posted over on the off-topic board as well. There's lots of generous fans of theatre over there who rarely make it over the main board.
Gypsy of the Year has been postponed? Until when?
Will do. Good idea, Mamie!
Edit: Thanks, Mamie, you already did!
Divine,
It is postponed until Dec. 17 and 18.

Excellent, Lizzie!
Also, if you use goodsearch.com -- it's kind of like a google -- for every search you make, one cent is donated to a charity of your choice. So you can put in BC/EFA and contribute that way too! :)
