Does anybody know what Gwen thought of Ann's virtual impersonation of her in the revival of Chicago?
I know Gwen was proud of Ann, but I'm not sure if she thought Ann was trying to copy her. Most considered Ann's performance a tribute to Gwen, but with her own interpretation.
Anyway, Gwen absolutely loved the revival. She went on to say she thought it was even better than her original Fosse production. And that says a lot.

Don't forget that Ann Reinking replaced Gwen Verdon in the original production of CHICAGO and, I think was the original Roxie on the tour until Gwen rejoined it.
Ann also played SWEET CHARITY, replacing Debbie Allen on tour.
Everyone here knows how much I love Gwen. She is tops in my book.
PS: Annie replaced Debbie in SWEET CHARITY on Broadway and Chita did the tour replacing Donna McKechnie.
Wait, Chita played Charity again on tour in the 80's? I didn't know that.
I know she did the original tour in the 60's.
The woman was true art!
No she didn't ljay - I just had a brain fart for a moment. Sorry.
If you come across old programs from the Los Angeles Civic Light Opera, 1939, 40 and 41 seasons (and I have easily found them all) grab them. Sixteen year-old Gwendolyn Verdon is in the corps de ballet in several of the shows those years.
Ann Reinking's performance as Roxie Hart, in my opinion, copied Gwen Verdon's. However, Ms. Verdon was a much better singer than Reinking.
