re: Gypsy 2008 Revival Recording

I hope not. I really see no need for it here! Everyone ive spoken to who has seen this show first hand has said how overrated it is. Im not a huge fan of Ms LuPone tbh and find her in herself overrated, but hey what do i know, im sure people will go see her.

A young actress with Noel coward after a dreadful opening night performance said to him 'Well, i knew my lines backwards this morning!'' Noels fast reply was ''Yes dear, and thats exactly how you said them tonight'!'

I love her in it too and would love to see it here, however it seems very unlikely...I'll be getting the CD soon hopefully, but for now I've downloaded a few songs off iTunes (I couldn't wait lol!) I have The Strip, Broadway, Small World, If Mama Was Married and Rose's Turn, all sound pretty phenomenal to me! I love Patti LuPone and would absolutely LOVE to see her in Gypsy, even if it meant having to kill Wickedboy! Haha!

re: Gypsy 2008 Revival Recording

I have to say that when I saw the production in New York in May I loved it. Laura Benanti and Boyd Gaines were the best Louise and Herbie I've ever seen and, despite my reservations about her, Patti Lupone was outstanding (and I'm a HUGE Bernadette Peters fan and never thought I'd see another Rose that came close to her). I'm looking forward to hearing the CD, especially to hear the tracks of the various cut songs, etc.

Well I enjoyed it....

( I did click on this, if only to see how quickly Wickedboy would leap in to say it was rubbish!)

re: Gypsy 2008 Revival Recording

If your all gonna buy the CD make sure you get it on line from Barnes and Noble! They are selling an exclusive double CD with many tracks that have never been recorded and some that were cut from the original Broadway production 50 years ago!

Its still rubbish!

re: Gypsy 2008 Revival Recording

I've heard a few tracks from this new revival and it just does not do it for me. Give me Merman over Lupone any day.

re: Gypsy 2008 Revival Recording

ahh im glad that the people of the west end board have some sense, as opposed to those on the broadway board! one bad thing about Patti Lupone and youd be crucified!

"one bad thing about Patti Lupone and you'd be crucified!"

I like Patti Lupone and I like what I've heard of this recording but I'm not prepared to join in with all that mob-rule on the Broadway Board. It's like the pre-enlightenment pre-revolutionary f'ing sixteenth century over there.

re: Gypsy 2008 Revival Recording

I would never say she's rubbish haha. I love her interpretation, and I love her as a performer.

Every Rose brings something new to the role. While Merman fit the role the best, the other Rose's are just as incredible. Peter's acting is better than any other Rose, Tyne Daly was just marvelous (even with her voice troubles), LuPone is magnificent and can certainly belt out the score, Lansbury was just perfect in every way, Turner has a wonderful voice, and Morris was just sensational!

I would never go so far as to say LuPone is rubbish. First of all, I love her performance, and second even if I didn't love it, Rose is an extremely demanding role to play. It may be the most difficult female role in musical theatre. I think any actress even attempting the role, and giving it her all is already a step above rubbish.

re: Gypsy 2008 Revival Recording

I love Patti but am terrified to give constructive criticism for anybody on the Broadway Board, they all yelled at me because I could not find the website for the Gypsy revival, so scary re: Gypsy 2008 Revival Recording

re: Gypsy 2008 Revival Recording

That broadway board really isnt even about broadway anymore, its just full of people picking on other people! it really is horrible to read through posts on there, you ask a simple question and if its not grammatically correct, prepare for a whole world of chaos!

re: Gypsy 2008 Revival Recording

I couldnt agree more- at least when we disagree on her its with respect and a little fun added. There are some really nasty pieces on the Broadway Board. Most of them hardly ever comment on anything remotely to do with the theatre world. Lizzie Curry, TooDarnHot are just two that need to be taken off.

re: Gypsy 2008 Revival Recording

I was listening to the Merman recording the other day, and I must admit that it did beat all the others I have (Lansbury, Peters and maybe Patti's, which hasn't arrived yet)

re: Gypsy 2008 Revival Recording

I find it annoying that on the Broadway board, there is never a mention of the actual show GYPSY, its just endless praise for Patti LuPone.

I haven't ever seen the show, or heard more than a few songs...but nothing anyone has said really makes me want to put the effort in there. It just sounds like people love the idea of Patti LuPone performing, regardless of what the material.

Almost like an old school version of Idina Menzel...the hardcore fans just follow blindly and block out any other opinions.

Even Jonathon Ross (on his Podcast) mentioned he went to see GYPSY, but he failed to talk about the actual show and instead commented on 'Patti LuPoney' being the definition of diva (not in a negative way).

I'd probably go see it if there was a good production in London, but wouldn't bother wasting time over in NY for it when I could go see a great show that doesn't seem enthralled with the headliner.
