One of the weakest points in the musical Gypsy is that they never show a relationship between June and Tulsa and then they
end up eloping were they basicly forced? I know that he talks
about her in the Son "all I need is the girl" but you would have
thought the writers would have written a scene or duet for just them to show that they were in Love.I Love the Musical Gypsy but
that was on question that came up.

That's not the point of the show.
I'm not sure I can waste my time discussing anything with someone who doesn't know the difference between there and they're, though.
Edited because I mistyped.

I think it's one of those things that isn't really neccesary to the plot. I mean... who cares if they were really in love? All that matters is that June left Rose for Tulsa... their love, or lack of love isn't really an essential detail or something that needs to be explained.

Posted: 12/14/07 at 11:34pmWho says that they were in love? For all we know, it was a way for both of them to get out of the act and pursue their dreams. What we basically needed to know is that both characters wanted to remove themselves from Rose's act. We are shown this in "If Momma Was Married" and "All I Need is the Girl". After that, it's merely a matter of what happens next. And what happens next is that they run away to start their own act. Yes, I know that they get married, but that isn't real evidence that June and Tulsa were madly in love with each other. And even if they were, I don't think that we need a song or scene to display this. It would merely detract from the main storyline.

Posted: 12/14/07 at 11:35pmIt's not about June, it's about Louise. She likes Tulsa, but of course the brilliant twist is that he runs away with the conventional girl - this just gives another motivation for Louise to follow her mother's wishes, mouth shut. Really not supposed to be another plot, but just adds to the rest of the story. Sorry, if there is a musical where it's technically impossible to find a book flaw is Gypsy.

Oh, hell, the point still stands. At least I actually know the difference and merely made a typo as opposed to completely butchering the English language. Geez.
Bitch at someone who deserves it. I may have typed too quickly on autopilot, but this person's posts are practically incomprehensible.

Is June running away because she's actually in love, or did she see an opportunity to get out from under her mother's oppressive rule. Personally, I think it was more about getting away from Rose than about falling in love with Tulsa.

Posted: 12/15/07 at 2:42amOne of the interesting things is the love/hate relationship between Gypsy and her sister, June Havoc which rivalled the screwed up relationship between mother and daughters. As many of us know, June went on to considerable success on her own, a solid dramatic career which rivaled Gypsy's. Her roles included Gladys Bumps in the original cast of "Pal Joey" and over 50 movies and TV credits. She was one of the replacements for Miss Hannigan in the OBC of "Annie" and I think she did a soap and wrote a few books.
