When I saw the matinee back in march ( i saw front row center), the plates went flying too! Luckily no one got hit. One of the dancers handed me an apple as well! Anyone interested in buying it? haha

I was supposed to have seen Gypsy today and this would have been my second time involving Patti LuPone and a plate accident. When I saw Sweeney, she dropped a plate on a woman during A Little Priest. I didn't hit the woman but Michael and Patti both seemed to find it hilarious.
I was there for that matinee too! I was up in the first balcony. Funny little moment. They broke character, but they worked it.
Such a wonderful performance by Ms. LuPone and the cast.

I was in the third row orchestra behind the young girl yesterday when the deed was done and I must say that she was a real trooper. It should be noted that not only was Julia Roberts there but also the beautiful and talented Angelica Houston was also in the house.

Where was Houston sitting? I didn't see her but I wish I had cause I like her a lot. I hadn't seen the show before, did they do anything different during the song than they usually do?? I really think that plate thing could be a hazard, but I guess if this was the first time that it actually hit someone then maybe not... as long as she wasn't really hurt then I guess it's okay! I figured since she stayed in her seat it wasn't too bad, it was actually only the third broadway show I had ever seen so it reminded me why live theater is so great (as twisted as that is) lol.
Lepetitefromage I laughed so hard when I saw your post. I knew it was comming eventually.
I was there was well. I think Boyd actually gasped.

Yeah I noticed that he did, he gasped and I think Laura and Patti laughed/looked REALLY uncomfortable. I thought it was really funny how Boyd walked forward and like beckoned for the plate while still in character, testament of a great actor I think!

Boyd gasped because it was actually his plate that rolled into the audience.
Hey those are the risks with sitting in the front row. I think most people would be honored to be hit with a plate that Lupone touched. Some queens I know wouldn't hand it back. They'd keep it and show up at the stage door with it.
I am still waiting to hear that someone got hit with broken plates at August Osage County.

Ohh it happened so quickly that we were convinced it was Patti, thanks tomemiller! And yes, actually, when I saw August Osage, there was an instant where a piece nearly hit an audience member, but it basically dangled off the stage. None of the actors seemed to take notice though and no one was hurt. I feel like that its possible to happen with that scene with the intensity that she throws the plates down... or maybe I'm just bad luck when watching!!
