Gypsy Questions

Hey guys =] I'm going to see Gypsy this Friday, the 14th, and I had some questions to ask:

1. I know there was a thread going around about Laura Benanti's attendance, but does anyone know specifically if her or anyone else in the cast is planning on being absent for Friday night's show. From what I've heard, people like Patti have excellent attendance, but I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas.

2. I also know that there was a thread regarding places to eat before/after Gypsy, but I wanted to have some suggestions specifically for quick places to eat. Me and my dad are coming from Long Island and might not have that much time before the show to get something to eat, but I was wondering if anyone has good suggestions for a place that's quick, pretty cheap, but still has good food before the show.

Alright, thanks. From what I hear, the show is really good so I'm definitely looking forward to it! If you guys could answer that would be great. Thanks =]

Ok thanks. Does anyone know how Dorothy Stanley is as Electra? It seems like a lot of people have been mentioning seeing her play the role.

Dorothy Stanley is great in any part she does, I think she's very underappreciated. Plus she can tap dance!

Anywho, she plays Electra in the same style as Marilyn Caskey (stripper waaaaaaay past her prime/been shocked a bit too many times) but will obviously be a bit different from Marilyn. The number is a riot anyway.

1. I don't know if anyone is planning on being out this coming Friday, but truth be told, "Gypsy" is really Patti's show. I've seen it twice, and personally my only concern would be if Patti is performing that night or not. (She's almost always there.) Laura and the rest of the cast are excellent, but they don't make or break the experience.

2. The closest restaurants to the St. James theater are mainly large, tourist-centric chains -- Ruby Tuesday, Chevys, etc. Good, if that's what you're looking for. My personal favorite in the general Times Square area is Eatery at 9th Avenue and 53rd Street. Not particularly close to where you'll be, but a good all-around restaurant for before or after the theater.

Enjoy your evening!

I'm most likely going to go see Gypsy on Friday too for my mom's birthday. I'm between that and Wintuk, though. Which one is more magical?

See Gypsy, don't deny yourself the opportunity, and you will surely not be dissapointed. I saw it with my mother on Mother's Day and she absolutely loved it, and she had seen Tyne Daly and Angela in the role as well.

When my mother came into town we ate at Dave and Busters on 42nd between 8th and 7th. It gave us some more time to kill before the show going into the game room.

I hope you enjoy the show!

You learn to play the straight man, the lines become routine - never really saying what you mean - but i know the scene will change :)

I saw Dorothy Stanley as Electra in August and she was a riot! She seemed like she was about 100 year old and was so fragile she would break in two, and yet she seemed like she must have been very beautiful once. It was kind of fascinating.

And isn't there a Sbarro at 42nd and 8th? I think they have seating in the basement so there's plenty of room.

If you have at least 45 minutes, eat at Angus McIndoe's.
It's right next to the St. James Theatre. The food is excellent and if you tell them you have a show to get to, they will get you out as quickley as possible. Even if you walk out of the restaurant AT 8pm, you just have to run next door.
