Hey hey!! I need some serious help! I have an audition and i'm dying to use the final monologue that Louise says to Mama at the end of the show that begins "I said turn it off!" I don't have the whole thing and I would LOVE it if someone could PM it to me or post it here. thanks so much!!!!
Louise "Gypsy Rose Lee" Hovick: I said turn it off! Nobody laughs at me, because I laugh first. At me. Me from Seattle. Me with no education. Me with no talent, as you've kept reminding me my whole life! Well, Mama, look at me now. Look! Look where I live. Look at my friends. Look where I'm going. I'm not staying in burlesque, I'm moving. Maybe up maybe down. But wherever I'm going, I'm having the time of my life, because for the first time, it is my life! And I love it! I love every second of it! I am Gypsy Rose Lee! And I love her! And if you don't you can just clear out! Now!

What a gr8 musical theatre piece. From the Gypsy/Mama Confrontation to the end, it just gets better and better. Gr8 writing.
You know, actually for me, it's start gaining speed with Gypsy making the transformation in the mirror. It's subtle but BOY, powerful. THen they just roll into the strips, dressing room scene, Mama meltdown and pow Ending.
I love ROSALIND RUSSELL in that role and that scene. WOW.
What continues to amaze me about Gypsy is how the monologues remain just as powerful as the songs
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE THIS SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yup. It's one of the few shows where the book really lives up to the score and works with it in perfect integration. Even in a bad production, the writing is just as smooth as can be.
Just reading that monologue makes me all tingly. I have been in this show four times, and seen it more then I can count- I never get tired of it.
I love that monologue. I think I might go listen to Gypsy right now. . .
it does give goosebumps

I remember Tammy didn't have the strongest singing voice, the character doesn't call for it, but that seen brought the house down. You could have heard a pin drop in the last row of the balcony when she slammed that dressing room chair down and shouted "I said turn it off!"
I would kill to be in Gypsy. I haven't been that lucky, but I was able to do 'If Momma Was Married' in a revue type thing. I love that monologue.
