I find this method of cast announcement to be totally pretentious and a huge turn-off.
I chose, and my world was shaken. So what?
The choice may have been mistaken. The choosing was not.

"The Tribe of HAIR has grown into a stunning, sexy, organic ensemble over thelast year and a half. Lauren, Allison, Anthony, John and Ato embody the spirit of love that makes this production such an extraordinary celebration."
What the heck?

Jennyish: A Virgo, Jenny digs walking in the rain and be-ins. Turnoffs include smokers and long drawn out cast announcements.

"Plzkies" sounds like a good name for a Polish cop.

I love how on their official site (hairbroadway.com) the link they have of the cast performing 'Aquarius' at the Macy's Parade has been taken down due to terms violation.

Pianolin717 is right...it usually has to do with contracts being finalized.
But another layer to this onion probably is...
Jennyish: The rolling out of cast members throughout the week puts HAIR in multiple news cycles this week, rather than one press release announcing everyone (and likely one day's worth of HAIR coverage.) It's a classic marketing technique, annoying as it may be.

It's all about maximizing the press, especially in this craptacular economy.

Do they think people are just sitting at their computers, waiting for this big announcement to come????

What I find most interesting about all of this is that there are pictures of cast members in front of the theatre already (Will Swenson, Allison Case, Darius Nichols, Bryce Ryness), and yet none of them have been announced to be in the cast.

The cast better be damn good with all this build up!
"As we all should probably have learned by now, to be a Stephen Sondheim fan is to have one's heart broken at regular intervals" - Frank Rich
"I think it's appropriate: iSondheim - a Sondheim for the new generation! (wailing guitar riff) Get your kids hooked early on Sondheim, so they'll grow up to be just as emotionally stilted and self-conscious as we are! - BustopherPhantom

I wouldn't mind them clarifying their situation thought process.

I don't think there's much to clarify. Which do you think is better, publicity wise: once casting announcement with a headline "full cast announced", or 5 separate ones that include names in the headline? It's not that difficult.

Well, we know Gavin Creel is the lead. The only big character left to "reveal" is Sheilia, right?

Shoshana Bean will not be Sheila, but it will be a former Elphaba.

A former Broadway Elphaba? If it is, that certainly limits the choices.
