Thought I'd start a thread for thoughts on the tour since it begins its run in L.A. tomorrow.
They just announced $25 rush tickets. Can't wait! :)
I saw this in December and absolutely loved it! I would strongly recommend going if it is in your city. The cast is great and the production actually worked just fine in a larger venue.
P.. where do they generally put rush people at? In the back orchestra?
For West Side Story we were 3rd row mezz. I think for Legally Blonde it was Orch Row N and behind. For In The Heights I sat as close as 4th or 5th row in Orch on the aisle. I'm not really sure, I guess it just depends on what's available that day.
This is the first not advertised as student rush. Not that they really checked ID's anyway, but you know... nice that it's general this time.

I cant wait to see it! I have rushed maybe 5 or so shows there and all the seats have been in the orchestra. I actually went to go see West Side Story and buy rush tickets but do to them having less than 100 tickets left they didn't do rush.. next time I am going to call ahead.
What time should one be there?
And are Goldtar seats better? They are selling for 29.
Goldstar is $29 + $9 fee and says it's in rear orch. I love goldstar but I'd take my chances with rush. They start selling 2 hours before curtain. Cash only. All the info is on the Pantages/Broadway L.A. site.
DAME-
Shall we see it together?
I saw it in December also and I loved it. The only problem I had with it was that the actress who played Sheila was imo really bad.
anyone seen it in Barcelona? it opened over christmas - the posters were everywhere
Just saw the tour tonight. The production and cast were both great. I can't even describe how much energy they have. Oh my goodness! The audience wasn't even super alive so I can only imagine how much more they have to give when they get it back. Tired just thinking about it.
We had standing room tickets in NY and it was a much more interactive experience than tonight. Not that I was expecting anything to top the ass slap I got from Will Swenson, but you know what I mean. The Pantages is not as intimate of a theater as the one I saw the show in on Broadway, so perhaps a little something got lost there. Got to drag my dad onstage at the end which he totally didn't see coming, so that was fun!
Oh, I should add in that Tanisha Ross was Dionne tonight and she was amazing!
Anyone else get to go yet?

Saw it opening night... Tour thoughts:
The Dionne was flat 85 percent of the time she sang. Especially the Aquarius reprise.
The Sheila was horrid in every way possible.
The Chrisy pushed and was flat.
The Berger was a lousy imitation of Will Swenson.
The Claude was too deep voiced and didn't sound good singing pop music.
Ms. Sheik obviously stood out as she should. One of the few people on stage deserving of her Equity status honestly. It was like watching a non-Eq tour that's been on the road for a couple of years. Everything was clean but the talent was almost less than mediocre. The only things going for this tour are the super clean staging and and Ms. Paulis' direction at points. Hopefully these things won't lose impact with this less than worthy cast.

I noticed ticketmaster has the Mezz blocked of for lots of performances. The Pantages is just so darn big.
Finishmyhat, you are entitled to your opinion, but I think it's sad that even your one positive remark about Ms. Sheik turned into a snide remark at the expense of the other cast members.
DAME - it really is. I am curious to see how they'll make a show like Avenue Q work there.

Finishmyhat- I agree with every statement you made. To add to that, the show is an absolute mess in this theatre. The pantages swallows it up.
The direction of this production, is meant to feel intimate, engaging, and interactive. All that disappears in the cavernous Pantages theatre.
The show has no plot... its just a celebration of the time, love, life, hair, etc. But if you have a cast that is not fully embracing themselves, or the material, then the direction doesn't work.
I could see the cast members "acting." No one was living it, or feeling it, or breathing it. They were just performing, like any other show. But with this show, if you don't allow your soul to perform, the show falls flat.
All my own opinions.
