HAIR - how is it doing now? (spring 2010)

I am in the same position! I bought my tickets with the advantages of my membership at the pre sale. After knowing what they are like from seeing the show on broadway and the assumption they are front row.
I've contacted The box office are very helpful, they can't move you as row AA is not on sale yet and wont be untill the day for day seats (if they are doing them for fist previews)
Row A is full is taken up by those from row B and Row C that had to be moved due to seats being removed.
Row AA IS VERY VERY VERY close to the front of the stage and there is NO chance of cast interaction, the best seats for cast interaction will be the ends of the rows due to the new seating plan.
Cast interaction with seats will be VERY different to how it was on broadway.
Unfortunately its a risk we took when purchasing the tickets.
However after seeing the theatre's plan clearer I am happier to stay in row B than move to AA if it was even offered.

i agree that the seating on the aisles would be best for this show if not front row for cast interaction. will they still do the audience going up on the stage with them at the end? if they are leaving Oct. 2 I best plan to go earlier. I will also probably love any new cast they have. i started out very reluctant about the new NY cast but i have to take that back because it is not fair.

who is playing Chrissy in London? Vanessa who replaced Allison is still in NY, so did Allison go to London?

i will have to keep tabs to see if Will, Gavin,or Caissey leave within a few months.

thanks for the updates, and whoever goes on April 1, i hope they post.

Crissy is being played by Allison Case. Vanessa has stayed on Broadway.

Will is the only cast member scheduled to leave early and that is only due to comitments to another show in America.

As for the seat situation, the box office staff have been fantastic with all their help and advice. I booked row B wanting front row, but have been to the Gielgud when it's had row AA in there and those seats were ridiculous, I can't believe they're putting them back in. There's no way there is going to be any cast interaction for row A or row AA (maybe on the ends though) the best rows to be in will be from row B onwards.

I know the official seating plan isn't being confirmed until next week, remember this is a very different theatre to what they're used to. A lot of changes have had to be made both to seating and to certain parts of the show where interaction/dialogue with the front row has had to be changed to other areas.

I booked with the intention to be front row but I am more than happy to stay where I am, you do not want to sit on row AA, believe me. The best seats for the show will be the ends of aisles in the stalls and in the circle.

An entrance to the circle has been made for cast members to easily get up there etc so people do not need to worry about that.

Also, the dance party at the end IS happening. It's a vital part of the show.

No.

Some row B people have been moved to row A, or elsewhere if they did not want those seats. If you haven't already been contacted, you will be staying where you are.

They have had to cut out seats at both ends of a lot of rows and at the moment, the current seating plan of the theatre today may change again completely before Thursday.

The best thing to do is just wait and see and see how it is on the night. Row AA and Row A will not get the usual cast interaction done to the front row, all of that section will be moved to a different location. If you're wanting cast interaction, aisle seats and the front row of the circle will be the best seats.

Is it confirmed that day seats will be in Row AA? And if it is very close to the stage, can anyone remind me what the rake is like at the Gielgud? I'm hoping it's not like the front row at the Prince Edward where you feel in need of a neck pillow during and a chiropracter afterwards. HAIR - how is it doing now? (spring 2010)
Seen some shows in my time....

It's not confirmed yet no, and if it is there will only be 6 AA seats anyway.

The stage is very high and AA is not on a rake, your is just in line with the top of the stage.

I just saw a post saying that the @HairUKNews twitter has just posted that the tribe will be performing Aquarius on Lorraine Kelly on GMTV from 8:25am tomorrow.

There is also a mention that that twitter is asking for people to live tweet from the theatre on Thursday, which should be good for those in the US or that can't attend.

Love the way Hannah Shankman has green wellies on at the airport.

Has she not been told they're only for walking the dog.

I live in my wellies haha.

It looks like the seating plan changed completely.

They have now cut into the stage, row AA is front row and will be sold at top prices, because they've cut into the stage it isn't as high/there is no restricted view and plenty of leg room so day seats will not be AA.

Haha, you don't want to know much, do you? I'll dissect it in more depth in next week's Theatre Talk, but: sat Row L (which is great), did not interact, did go up to the dance party which was very energising. Had a blast. Feel very mellow.

The whole cast were great but I have a big soft spot for Brandon Pearson as I danced with him six months ago in New York, for the amazing Sasha Allen and the hilarious Andrew Kober. New Woof is wonderful. Swenson and Creel were also excellent.

I liked the cast, but as an overall show I think it's not for me.
I was up the top and a poor swing (I think) came out to dance on this beam and went up onto a chair and on the way back along the beam fell into the audience and hit the stairs! He didn't come back out and I felt awful for him. Also the right hand side got scared at one point, I think there was a mouse!
AND one guy in my row got given a load of flowers to pass along and he kept most of them HAIR - how is it doing now? (spring 2010)

But yeah, I might go again with day seats, but it didn't really grab me, despite excellent performances, lighting and band etc.

Does anyone know who the understudies are yet? Or the swings? I'm especially curious to know the Claude understudies, since none of the original Broadway ones made the trip.

Some of the u/s are the same.

Jeanie: Megan Reinking / Katie Lavelli
Crissy: Katie Kiyan / Hannah Shankman
Hud: Michael James Scott / Ato Blankson-Wood
Sheila: Megan Reinking / Hannah Shankman
Dionne: Phyre Hawkins / Holly James
Claude: Kevin Kern / Oliver Eyre Berger

It seems Ace Young will be replacing Will once his time in London is done.

i love Andrew Kober. i have a vid of him talking to my daughter (and Will too). so, Bryce wasn't Woof? isn't Darius an amazing Hud?

oh, that is terrible. i would feel awful for him too. poor guy. one time caissie fell from top of scaffolding to the stage when doing the dance party.

No, Bryce didn't make the trip, Luther Creek is Woof in London. I'm actually really interested to hear how he is as Woof, he's been in a bunch of productions of Hair over the years, but always as Claude.
