Yes, WHERE your seats are is totally random. But I agree...although we did it; you do not have to be there the crack of dawn to get seats...I would say 7 is still safe...during the week anyway. I would suspect that Friday and Saturday would need more diliegence.
QUESTION: for those of you that HAVE been further back in the line (arriving at 7 or later) how quickly or slowly does the line go once they begin the distribution???

"I think it depends on how many people are in your party, because they have to find that many number of seats together"
This is untrue. The person in front of us got two tickets. He was next to us. We had four. The people behind us had four tickets. They were also next to us. And the people next to them in line, of whom got two tickets were next to them. And I saw the woman take the tickets directly off the top of the pile.

I have a few questions.
1. What time is a good time to get there. Would 6ish be ok?
2. What day of the week is the easiest to get tickets to?
3. Where do you line up? I am very confused where the line is and how to get there.
4. I live on Long Island and don't know Manhattan well besides the theatre district so if I wanted to take a subway from Penn Station to the station closest to line which one is that?
Any help would be soooo Amazing!!! I really didn't want to get up that early but with all the positive reviews I couldn't help but go. :)

I live in Queens. When I go to Shakespeare in the Park, I take the LIRR (from the station right around the corner from me) to Penn Station at which point I go out to 8th Ave and "splurge" on a cab to 81st and CPW. Subway service on the weekends isn't always the greatest and especially if I'm going early to sit in line for something popular, and I've got my beach chair and day backpack of food/books, etc with me, I can't deal with the subway at such an early hour. Between the less frequent service and/or other changes, I have decided in the past few years to spare the 8 or 10 dollars or however much it was to get there relatively relaxed without having to drag stuff around in the subway. And it takes no time at all to get up to the park. I will say that I take the subway back home since it would most likely cost more since more traffic is on the road later in the day.
But that's just me. I'm sure different things work for different people.
