Hey everyone,
I'm wondering: if lining up in the morning for Hair at the Delacorte, what is your list of essentials to bring so that you will survive the wait?!
I'm going on September 2--if anyone wants to join me, please PM me--I can't make it till about 8am because my bus doesn't come in till 7ish. I'd love to know if you're going then so we can help each other out!
Here's my survival list at the moment. Please add tons more!
water bottles
sunscreen
antibacterial/waterless hand soap
umbrella
pillow
ipod
books
snacks
PS--someone said people come by with flyers for restaurants who deliver--is this true? and you can have food delivered right to you in line?!
Thanks!

How about a chair or blanket?
I have also heard about restaurants delivering to the line.

I think you listed everything...this isn't like a camping trip and it's not like you are waiting in line overnight or for two to three days.
People start lining up at 5 am.

BRING FOOD AND WATER!
And, just a recommendation from a type-a personality, I'd leave a lot of the distractions (ipod, book) at home, because it's much more fun to make friends/allies with your in-line neighbors.

I bought a book, a sketchbook and a newspaper and didn't look at any of them. The camaraderie you develop with your fellow line sitters makes the time pass almost unnoticeably!
A thick blanket or air mattress or chair would have helped. I took only a small throw blanket thinking we would be sitting on the Great Lawn.

I'm going on September 3rd and can't wait! Now, it'll be the day after I move to the city...so, I won't have a chair to bring or anything. But I'm fine with sitting on concrete haha and I'm not gonna lie...I'm not looking forward to an 8 hour wait in line.
Is anyone else going September 3rd?

BUG SPRAY!! Bug spray bug spray bug spray. I would've been eaten alive by mosquitos had the nice man in front of me not offered some of his.
If you're with friends, bring a deck of cards, or maybe a board game or two. That's usually how you end up making friends. (I now bow to the friend-making power of Yahtzee!)
Waiting in line is a fantastic part of the HAIR experience...I've done it twice now (as of toay) and plan to go back a few more times. Can't wait for tonight's show!
Love.

I've been waiting in line for every show for the past 15 years in all kinds of weather. We weathered a major lightening storm during the wait for Hair (but second row was worth it). No matter what show, I never get there later than 7 am on a Saturday and there is always plenty of tree cover. Never had a bug problem and always bring a selection of reading material, big towels, a picnic and a good friend.
Waiting in line is part of the whole "experience" of The Delacourte. There are rituals performed by the staff every year and various people who come by to entertain/sell their wares. And yes, you do meet theater lovers of all kinds. It is never uncomfortable and the time always flies by. Some years I have been sad to see the line waiting end! It's the only time of the year I get to quietly sit in Central Park for 7 hours.

Posted: 8/17/08 at 1:35pmok, sorry if this is a dumb question, but how early should one get there to get tickets. I know people start lining up at like 3am, but the chances of me being able to do that are slim-to-none (my parents tend to be on the over protective side).

Posted: 8/17/08 at 1:57pmI'm dying to know... how do you handle bathroom needs?
#20re: HAIR - wait line survival guide!
Posted: 8/17/08 at 2:02pmThere is a set of bathrooms right next door to the Delecorte. You are allowed to leave the line to partake in the relief they provide.
