HAIRSPRAY plot questions

I saw the current tour of HAIRSPRAY recently but because of my hearing impairment I didn't understand a couple of things.

1) Near the end of the show Motormouth Maybelle comes onstage wearing a policeman's uniform and a sparkly wig. What was that all about?

2) During the final moment of the curtain call Amber Von Tussle runs on and puts the crown on Tracy Turnblad and then Little Inez runs onstage and Tracy puts the crown on her head. I get the Amber part but I don't understand the Little Inez part. What was that all about?

The current tour is a little downsized but it is an excellent production.

1) Motormouth was disguised as a security guard to help Edna and the kids get into the building with the hairspray can and then under the uniform, it's an ensemble for the finale.

2) That may be something similar to what they did in the 2007 film where they crown Inez "Miss Teenage Hairspray" because she was the best dancer and helped integrate the Corny Collins show by dancing on television with Tracy.

There have been small changes from the movie to the current show; another is that Edna now joins the Dynamites in the Welcome to the Sixties playoff, singing the new Edna verse from the film soundtrack.
