The music isnt too bad for this show- its always on the radio. Who was in it and what is it about? I see it has a parental advisory stamp on the front- whats the cause of that?
I always like finding out about shows I've never heard of- any response is appreciated.
ooh, I love Hedwig!!! John Cameron Mitchel wrote and starred in it. It's basically about Hansel growing up in Communist Eas tBerlin, and he eventually meets an American G.I. who wants to take him to America. But in order to get out of the country, Hansel has to leave a certain *something* behind, if you know what I mean!! His sex change operation gets botched and hes left with an "angry inch" between his legs. He takes his mothers name (Hedwig) and moves to Kansas. Eventually, Hedwig ends up divorced and starts a rock band about her experiences and how someone she once loved begins stealing her songs and becomes famous off of them. I'm kinda bad at summarizing and I hope I didnt give too much away, but it's kist a GREA Tstory about being different and learning to acept who you really are.
The music is AWESOME. You should rent the DVD of the film--the documentary extra is a priceless history of the show from concept to stage to film.
One of the long-lost wonders of the world :). It's about a Drag queen who is looking for his(her) 'Other half.'

And you know that union crews KNOW what they're talking about when they talk about buttal areas.
Princess you did a great job describing it! I absolutely loved the movie and the music....except for the end of the movie. I'm not sure exactly what I'm supposed to make out of it...but it's a great show.

You're supposed to make out of it whatever you want to make out of it!

Her ass is also the prettier half of her.
Hedwig is amazing. my favorite song is orgin of love I think that is the best description of love i have ever heard in a song.
Years from now, HEDWIG (the play and the film) will be given the proper recognition it deserves.
It seems that without HEDWIG there would be no TABOO. Has anyone actually compared the two?
It seems that without HEDWIG there would be no TABOO.
Whoa, there. That's taking it a bit far...both of them have absolutley nothing to do with each other. Except having men in drag.
Master,
So we have John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask to thank for that train wreck I sat through during a snowstorm?
Oy!
PS The Hedwig cover album (WIG IN A BOX) which benefits the Hetrick-Martin School is absolutely delightful.
I second Wig In A Box--fantastic hearing new interpretations of such a rockin' score. I may be in the minority, but I even love Yoko Ono's cover of Hedwig's Lament.
Thanks guys!
I think you are in the minority, jrb. I've scratch the Yoko Ono track off of my CD with a nail file. Cyndi Lauper rocks though!

Absolutely not. Yoko's version is so fantastic. And, as I said in the earlier thread about Wig in a Box, there is something incredibly poignant about hearing Yoko, a survivor of the bombing of Hiroshima, sing "I was born on the other side of a town ripped in two." If ever there were a performer who KNOWS that feeling, it's Yoko. And remember, JCMitchell name-checks Yoko in Midnight Radio, it would seem he and Hedwig would like it if you'd give Yoko her proper respect.

There is actually quite a bit more in common between the two shows. I don't think Hedwig is responsible for us having Taboo, but there are definitely common themes. They're both very sad shows about discovering ones identity and embracing difference.
