I doubt anyone will know that until right around the 22nd. I'd imagine that it will probably open in limited release in major cities on the 22nd (like most UK imports or smaller indie films) and in the coming weeks, it'll expand wider after that, at whatever pace that may be.

But when did New Hampshire become--Such a backward wasteland of seatbelt hating crazies?...I mean, only 40 people actually live there. The others are just visitors who come for the tax-free liquor and three inches of novelty coastline. John Hodgeman on The Daily Show (1-30-07)

"It's like, "Yay, we won the Tony. Let's go make the movie."

They filmed it WELL before the play went to Broadway, in fact people had already seen test screenings here before it opened there. There was a big gap after the guys finished History Boys in the UK and starting Broadway, the UK tour had a completely different cast.

THE HISTORY BOYS
Exclusive pre-release reception and screening of The History Boys movie
Wednesday 4 October 2006, 8.45pm – 11.30pm
National Film Theatre, South Bank

Following the global success of Alan Bennett’s smash-hit play The History Boys, Bennett adapted the play for the screen. The film features the play’s original award-winning cast and is directed by Nicholas Hytner.

We invite you to join Nicholas Hytner and members of the cast at this exclusive preview evening to benefit the National Theatre. Michael Parkinson will introduce the film and members of the cast to the audience.

Tickets: £100, includes champagne and canapé reception followed by the introduction and film screening.

For further information and booking form email: historyboys@nationaltheatre.org.uk

Tickets will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, as seating is limited. Funds raised will support the National’s twin goals of working with and for young people and the development of the next generation of work. The film is out on general release late October.

The poster might bring a different crowd to the movie than would come if they advertised it another way.

If Percy Blakeney were in Les Mis....

Percy: Sink me! If it isn't Javvurt!
Javert: Zsah-vair, it's pronounced Zsah-vair.
Pecry: But it's spelled J-A-V-E-R-T Javvurt.
Javert: Repeat after me Zsah...Zsah....
Percy: Oh! Zsa-Zsa! Like the Gabor sister! Well I personally have always prefered Eva.
Javert: (Looks for gun)

Since I believe that History Boys has about as much depth and complexity as American Pie, I'd say that the poster accurately represents the work.
