I am so happy for Ave Q, all the way up to the show starting I figured WICKED had it, then when Ave Q kept winning I knew what was coming! I'm so happy Q won, it's so different and "all fresh faced and new" I'm glad it was given what it deserves, I still like Wicked a lot but the right show won!

Maybe the Tony voters aren't as dumb as we "sophisticated" New Yorkers like to think.

I don't think people were accusing the voters of being stupid so much as greedy. But give them credit- they voted with their hearts this year. :)

I'm not going to lie, I was there and I hyperventilated from screaming so much. People started to look at me funny, but Q is a very special show for me.
Needless to say I'm speechless on explaining how happy I am.

And hang on, when did you win the discus?

I called it yesterday - Wicked is the Smarty Jones of the Tonys - the sure winner that got nosed out.
I was unable to detect any melody in "Defying Gravity" - if that is an example of Wicked's score, no wonderr it didn't win!

Yeah, you can get a pretty good feel of "Wicked" by listening to that song. Actually, that's one of the show's better numbers.

"Ave Q is art for art's sake"
That's a bit dramatic IMHO.

Avenue Q was funny for the sake of making people laugh and having a great time at the theater.

If Wicked had won best score, I mean the world may have collapsed. Sorry, but Schwartz doesn't know what he's doing. The score is a mess, and is probably one of the weakest points of the show.
Avenue Q was clever and different and, um, I dunno...INCREDIBLE. That was a real victory. I love a good surprise.

There was a sudden and palpable feeling in Radio City that something just broke. First, there were gasps and then applause and the smiles.
Wicked is so freakin' over-produced and everyone knows it except the teeny-boppers for whom it is written.
Things come in threes:
(1) Ronald Reagan
(2) Smarty Jones
(3) Wicked

What was truly a stunner was that the monitors in Radio City had the WICKED logo on them as the winner was being announced for BEST MUSICAL.... so even the Tony production staff were taken by surprise. You could tell everyone in the theatre was like "WTF?!" as if they had heard Nathan incorrectly. Then, a wave of excitement poured across the audience as reality hit them.
As I heard someone say during the evening with regards to Wicked's loss---"I've never seen karma work so fast"

I think Avenue Q really deserved it!! I was VERY shocked when i didnt hear Wicked. Hopefully now Avenue Q will have a VERY long run...same with wicked. I hope this doesnt effect wicked (audience numbers and closing). Congrats to Q!!!! Now hopefully there wont be a lot of people in the ticket lottery this saturday matinee!!!=D

I don't think getting tickets to Avenue Q will be especially more difficult now. It's been running a while and tourists will still want to see the big spectacle they can take their kids to rather than something they might find offensive. I was in NY the summer Rent won and had no problem getting standing toom tickets any day I wanted to see it. Not to mention I always got cancellation tickets the summer The Lion King won the Tony.
