I am not going to use rhetoric and attempt to sound credible. I am just going to give you my pure and unvarnished opinion.
IT SUCKED!!!
It was NOTHING, I repeat, NOTHING but a collection of well-rehearsed dance numbers with an extremely weak plot thrown in to make it appear sensible. The humor couldn't be more ineffective. The cast gave strong performances but their characters were not developed sufficiently which prevented the audience from sympathizing with them.
I can say with conviction that this isn't the sort of musical that will set records, let alone stay on broadway for an extended period of time.
I am reluctant to even give it a star.

Posted: 3/26/06 at 8:34pmThere were suggestions of incestuous love. Are there any provocative customes? The question should be.. are there any that aren't provocative? There are so many they might as well use it as a selling point.

I haven't seen Movin' Out but this is the most forgettable musical I've seen so far. The characters were developed so prematurely that nobody really cared that the lead died in the end. It didn't elicit any emotion from me whatsoever.

Posted: 3/27/06 at 1:31amHow does the EWF music sound? Is it all done live with new arrangements? Or do they just dance to the original recordings?

No huge surprise, I guess. I can't imagine anyone thought this was a viable property. Too bad.

Posted: 3/27/06 at 10:40amI have a good friend who saw it on Friday night and she said that if it is going to make it to New York, A lot of work has to be done. She said the choreography was good to a point but got repetitive and there were no breakout numbers in the show. She said the sets were funtional and ok. She also said the costumes were all over the map from modern to, street to downright hoochie! (That's what she said) She wasn't crazy about the pasties on the body suit(s).

When I saw this on Friday, they made an announcement that although the audience could not see the vocalists and the band, they were performing live. The mere fact that they even made the announcement put me at unease. But yeah, according to them they are performing live, and not to EWF recordings. I have never heard EWF so I can't tell you how the arrangements differ.
But I echo everything the origial poster said. This really sucked. I was ashamed I even bought a discount ticket. My "review" of sorts is on another thread.
