Ooh looks exciting.

Love the Apollo Victoria, I'm a huge geek for Art Deco buildings and I really love the new lease of life Wicked gave this theatre, here's to another 80 years (though perhaps not of Wicked there!!)

Am I the only one who thinks the interior slightly resembles an opera house? Partly because the walls look so elegant and grand - not to say that theaters aren't in general!!
Everything in life...is only for now.

I do not dislike The Victoria Apollo and is a very good venue for presenting shows, but this theatre always reminds me of a typical Broadway Theatre, by which I mean it has a orchestra and a balcony.

But I still adore the classic 4 tier theatres you find in only in the West End like The Gielgud, Palace, Drury Lane and Comedy etc, where you have your stalls, dress circle, royal circle and balcony absolutely charming piece of architecture, I appreciate in these venues the site lines aren't the best, but the houses are splendid.

I went to the Wyndham theatre for the first time tonight, also one a 4 tier theatre, what a splendid house.

The Apollo Victoria is a great venue with a great history, keep in mind it was built as a super cinema than a theatre so the sightlines are a lot better compared to theatres of a similar capicity. Wicked's done great there and I think will be there for a while.

I do love the deco with the plaque of the lady surrounded by film and the fish on the ceiling when you enter the stalls.

People used to q outside the New Victoria for hours to see a screening here.
It hit he skids in the 60s and my mother remembers seeing a movie there when just the front 5 rows of the circle were open and just 10 or so people there.
The Apollo Leisure group spent an absolute fortune to reopen the cinema as a theatre and it really was touch and go for many yeas when it did eventually open as a West End theatre.
We can certainly thank LLoyd Webber for the 18 year run of 'Starlight Express' to keep the Apollo open thru the lean years when London nearly lost the Dominion etc.

I agree with POL, its not a 'real' West End wedding cake theatre but it still takes my breath away.

Also the outside looks stunning.
Let's hope they treat it to a good cleaning for its birthday.
When I went to see Wicked in January it was actually quite dirty (those beautiful lights were black from dust).
