Posted: 7/7/08 at 12:05pmWith all due respect to "Spamalot," which has had a great run, I would hope Gary Beach could do better when he gets back to Broadway. He deserves a lead in an original musical, not something that will be ready to close in 6 months. I'm not counting "La Cage...," in which he was fantastic. It was a revival caught in the middle of all sorts of production politics. It's time that Gary, one of Broadway's most talented artists and a true gentleman, is recognized in a BIG way. I don't even think he has a caricature up at Sardi's, but I don't know.

I agree entirely Glinda2 with your sentiments. While I don't think it would be a fatal or dire career decision to star in Spamalot on Broadway (he's superb in the National Tour!) I too feel he should return to Broadway in another great vehicle to showcase his abilities. God forbid, but if Mel decided to have one last go at Broadway and ended up doing Blazing Saddles, he'd make a terrific Hedley LaMarr! I think too that he'd make a terrific Chairman if they ever decided to revive Drood.
After Spamalot I know he's expressed interest in debuting his one man cabaret piece "From Beach to Broadway" in NYC. Though it would be wonderful if he could squeeze in another original role before he debuted his one man show!
Oh, and Gary actually did receive a Sardi's caricature some years ago (during BATB I think?)
