Hadestown Question (Major spoiler)
Hadestown Question (Major spoiler)#1
Posted: 6/28/19 at 11:10amI saw Hadestown in previews and again last night. During the previews performance, at the very end, Orpheus walked up several steps after the landing before turning around. Last night, he only walked up on the landing and didn't go up the second staircase. I think there is a difference in dramatic impact depending on how close he gets to the exit and am curious if Reeve/Orpheus gets to choose at each performance when the turn is or if there's a set point.

While I think it ads dramatic impact if he's closer to the exit, I was sitting front Row Mezz house right, and if he walked up another stair or two our side of the audience wouldn't be able to see Orpheus anymore.... I have a feeling that's what swayed the decision to have him turn around sooner.

Yeah, I was in the seat farthest to the right in the back of the orchestra, and I was relieved/confused when I saw him. I could've swore that back in April he walked higher up but I could be wrong.

I saw it twice in previews and both times he only went up a handful of steps to the landing, I don't believe he went up any farther than that. I first saw it from house right and could clearly see him the entire time, he would have been slightly blocked if he went up more.
I do agree about the dramatic impact, though. But the sightlines matter more, possibly.

Did you hear that girl loudly and audibly sobbing when Orpheus turned around? I was afraid the audience would start laughing
By the way, the show was astounding as always.

Hadestown Question (Major spoiler)#7
Posted: 6/28/19 at 2:14pmI did hear her! I think I first heard her when Hades pulled out the flower (after which the audience did laugh) and had the same worries for the end. Crying is one thing but making that much noise is a bit excessive.

I think she was in orchestra a couple of rows away from me. It was a little over dramatic. A few people finally shushed her and she cried silently throughout the rest.

To whom are you referring by "T"?
"Michael Riedel...The Perez Hilton of the New York Theatre scene"

I’ve seen it twice, and the first time there was a pretty audible gasp from a lot of audience members. Was actually a pretty cool moment. Made it hit harder even though I knew it was coming
