re: Hair - Gielgud Theatre London 2010

^ yep!

"Keep in mind that if they go to London they will all be left without a job when they return home. This is because if they go to London they wouldn't be allowed to return to their roles on Broadway due to someone else playing it. Considering that there are some cast members who are parents, I think that they wouldn't wish to risk that. I think that there might be some who are going to play it safe and stay in New York "

i was wondering this actually. i remember Will Swenson going back to HAIR after playing Stacee Jaxx in ROA. so, twice he would take that risk? (not that HAIR was a risk)
is it possible that the new cast signed for 6-7 months knowing the others will be coming back? i am not disagreeing with you, just wondering.
i wish i knew if Will was going back to HAIR in NY after 10 weeks or what his new commitment is.

Does anyone know if any of the cast will send out signed stuff if you ask them via post? Hoping for Gavin to sign photo? Will send SAE...

A enjoyable bank holiday read, Clive Barnes original 1968 review, for the New York Times.

And 40 years later Ben Brantley review of the revival at the Al Hirschfeld.

Michael;
I believe they will. Gavin told me when I saw him in NY that it takes a while for them to get stuff. I got all my stuff personally, but i truly believe they would. for all intents and purposes they are appreciative and do evoke the hippy thing. acting or not. i met gavin twice and both times he was amazing. once it was freezing and he stopped outside stage door to talk to the orignal costume designer for quite a while and had him taken care of. Caissey Levy is another doll. I would try to send things quick to the Gielgud though, because it has to have a turn around to be received and sent back.

Thanks so much. Why does it take them a while to get stuff? and what about this "turn around"? Should I just ask him to send a signed photo?

Thanks appreciate your info.

^^

that's your call. i just asked him because i know i had sent stuff a month before i took my trip to NY (not a really long time actually) and they had not receieved it. i am sure the theatre did, the actors hadn't.

i think you may have more luck at the Gielgud. I have no idea how long the turn around is. i had still not received anything and they went on to London. best of luck

Piper3500, there is a difference between then and now with regards to Hair and Will. Hair hadn't finished its casting for the Broadway production and at that time Will finished doing Rock Of Ages Off Broadway. So, the question was, which show was he going to do now that they were both coming to Broadway. He picked Hair over Rock Of Ages.

He has had a long standing engagement to play Starbuck alongside Audra McDonald's Lizzie Curry in a community theatre production of 110 In The Shade. Reason why they are doing this is to help out Will's brother who owns and runs the theatre. That show runs from the end of june to the beginning of August. So, Will is in London between then and now. That is why he is leaving early.

MichaelUK--This is one of the nicest casts you will ever meet in your life. It may take a while to get things back from some people, but I do know that most of them do reply to fan mail.

A number of people I know saw the show over the weekend and not one has come away saying they were in any way swept away by this production.

re: Hair - Gielgud Theatre London 2010

I think part of the show were just ok. But I think the cast and talent on stage really does surpass the material - i don't think it's got the same impact as it would of had.

re: Hair - Gielgud Theatre London 2010

The hype around the show in New York has already died away with weekly takings slipping all the time. The show has never been big in the UK once the original closed in 1972. It has had 4 West End productions none of which were a success, this one wont be around longer than 8 or 9 months..

In the center of an aisle...farther back. That is the best place, but there is no guarantee there won't be interaction, no matter where you sit.

re: Hair - Gielgud Theatre London 2010

Centre of stall definately but they still will interact! I had them climbing all over the seats in the stalls! So BEWARE! lol

thanks so much. wondering about my other question of others leaving Oct. 2... do they HAVE to move on, or the ones in NY now contracted until they do come back. with all of this talk, it seems like it will be closed.

in my opinion, i absolutely adored it all. more for personal reasons. i love the message. i would hate to see it be cancelle pre maturely in London and closed in NY before it should be.

Afaik, a British cast is coming in to replace them all in six months time, which is the agreement they came to with Equity in order to allow the entire American cast to come over. I think after that they will all move on to different things...

re: Hair - Gielgud Theatre London 2010

Several of the cast memebrs were saying at the last perofmrnace that they do plan on coming back to the Bway production after London.

Tonight's the night!
Unlike New York, the reviews won't start coming in until very late tonight and the early hours of tomorrow morning.
This will be interesting.

Post 'em here!.............................

re: Hair - Gielgud Theatre London 2010

But would they need that long? They have all done it before, so surely two weeks just to get used to the space and for technical guys to get used it it would be enough?
#48

re: Hair - Gielgud Theatre London 2010

Thats basically why they have done it I guess, just get it up and open.
Also remember, London never seems to have as long a period of previews as they tend to like in New York.

re: Hair - Gielgud Theatre London 2010

The 1979 West End presentation of AIN'T MISBEHAVIN didn't have the original Broadway cast. The group that opened at Her Majesty's was Evan Bell, Andre De Shields, Annie Joe Edwards, Jozella Reed and Charlaine Woodard. Andre de Shields and Charlaine Woodard were from the original Broadway company.
