Surprised at the review so far, expected 1st class write ups.

Any of you celebrating with a bit of free love and a dodgy fag on the go?

Quentin in the Mail always seems to say the polar opposite to everyone else, he reminds me of Murray from Talking Broadway

Brilliant set off Reviews, well done to the cast and crew of Hair

Now please fire the mail theatre critic, wasnt he the only one to trash Legally Blonde as well, someone does not like his happy and uplifting musicals lol

Fantastic reviews; excepting the Mail - I totally agree with you SADM2 - FIRE HIM! However, I think all these positive reviews are definately deserved by the brilliant cast and production. Great start for Hair it seems (:

Daily Mail will hate anything that displays "minorities" as Mr Letts so wonderfully puts it...

T*at!

What qualifies him as a theatre critic? When I se his reviews all i see this the inane grin of his glaring from the page!

Metro.

You can knock holes in Hair from 50 paces. It has almost no plot, there are more forgettable songs ... than standouts and its hippy dippy, anti-Vietnam vibe belongs to a long-vanished era of dropout radicalism and youthful idealism. Yet it's also hard to imagine how Diane Paulus' psychedelic Broadway revival could be better ... Paulus' emotionally literate, loose-limbed production soars on the back of several exceptional talents - from "Age of Aquarius" singer Sasha Allen to Darius Nichols' slick soul boy Hud ... Paulus captures the generous spirit of the play without either turning it into a period piece or ridiculing its free love sentiments. It's indulgent and blurry at times but it also feels like one big, joyful embrace."

As I'm writing my review now, I actually have to agree with a lot of what the Whingers said. This is a great production, but the show itself is a mood piece, and it's hard to get into the mood when you see where that generation went 40 years later...

how old is this reviewer? "forgettable songs" i have known those songs since i was a young kid from my parents k-tel albums who weren't even hippies. at least 4 were huge award winning songs. it was also never known for its book.

i guess i am so anti-war that i will always find this piecce poignant. and i absolutely adore Darius Nichols.

I didn't think the Mail does give a negative review of the show - it gives a negative review of the philosophy:

"It was certainly obvious that the draft dodgers were the rich kids and that the ones who went to their deaths were mainly the blue-collar boys. So what we're watching here is merely a gang of gilded groovers.

When you consider that the draft-dodgers included later warmongers such as Bill Clinton and George W Bush, it doesn't do much for the brand."
