I went to the casting call in TO on Thursday. I am from Calgary. It wasn't an open call. They typed out at the beginning of the audition. We had to freestyle for 8 counts, then they made a cut according to look. They were cutting blondes but keeping redheads. Then we were taught an easy little routine (no dance skill involved) They are really looking for character types who have a little bit of musical theater type of dancing (NOT JAZZ). The director was there, and not too pleased about the trained jazz dancers looking like jazz dancers. We were also told to wear character dance shoes and era clothing.
Perhaps Penny casting? Wanting a mini Kerry Butler type?

Yes. The girls were told to wear Character Shoes. They had to freestyle for 8 counts, then were typed out, according to looks. Guys were also typed out. Most guys were kept. We were taught another short combo (simple stuff hand jives etc.) then told to be on avail to return Friday for Acting and Singing, no dancing. Short and sweet. The director was there.
this was for penny?? would they not FIRST have vocal auditions for penny.. rather than dance?
Totally didn't even know about this
How did it go?

It went good, but I didn't get called to audition on Friday. I am 19, and most of the actors called back in for Friday to sing and act were over 20 (at least they looked it). I was kind of suprised they didn't type out from headshots a little more before giving out audition times. We were lead to believe they were auditioning dancers, but actually they were typing out for secondary speaking parts. Most of the dancers I talked to didn't act or sing. We were told we had to have a strong ballet/jazz background. All you needed to be able to do is WALK! Apparently there will be dance auditions late June or early July. It was a little disappointing to travel that far and only have about 10 min of actual audition time, with stuff anyone could do. Before the cut they basically had about 50 dancers in a room in several lines, and didn't move the lines. Some dancers didn't get seen at all, I am guessing. Spent over $700.00 on hotel & airfare

From what I understand, Penny was being auditioned by a different CD. I think they already have a shortlist for Penny and Amber, if they are not already cast
