Are they seriously closing November 2nd? I feel they barely publicized the show's closing at all-- it seemed more like a bunch of rumors than an official closing. When I mentioned the closing casually while chatting with a bunch of kids who are bigger theatre dorks than I am, nobody else had heard the news. If they'd promoted the original closing more, I'm sure they would have had a lot more advance sales.

Except that I'm not cool enough... get Coolkid instead to replace me. He's so cool, it's in his username.

They're staffing the box office with extra people tomorrow because they're expecting a stampede at the ticket windows when the official announcement is made tomorrow morning.

There usually isn't lotto for the last performance of a long-running hit.

Are you seriously questioning the one who was kind enough to give us this info ahead of time, coolkid? Are you really that dumb?

Seriously?

I really don't think that Margo would get the date THAT wrong. I think they plan to stay open until Jan. 4th but telling people Nov. 2 to boost sales.

Hey, believe what you want, but they've already put in a rush order for new merch. The t-shirts will read "Hairspray's Last Squirt" and the rush date is for Nov. 2nd.

My source tells me that John Travolta has been invited for the last perf.

Margo Lion is one of the show's producers.

OMG what's going on?!!? I hop on here at work just to browse for a few minutes and see 16 million threads about HAIRSPRAY and just about that many speculated closing dates. While still extremely sad, January 4th I can deal with. November 4th I cannot. That just sounds so crazy. A six-year running show suddenly putting up its closing notice less than two weeks before it closes? It would also contradict everything that Harvey said in his blog, about coming back November 18th. That being said, grosses were down again this week compared to the week before (and capacity dipped below 70% again).

I already have tickets for the January 19th 6:30 show in my hands. I just want to know what's going on!

p.s...Thanks for thinking of me, WishingOnlyWounds2!
