Hairspray Auditions - Songs for Penny?

I am auditioning for the role of Penny (and POSSIBLY Amber) in Hairspray this Sunday. Our director does NOT want songs from the show, and he has also requested the song be up-tempo. I am a belter with a very high range. Also, I figured this went without saying, but the song MUST be from a musical theatre show of some kind. Thanks!

This is may be too overdone depending on the situation, but "somewhere that's green" comes to mind".

I thought "Somewhere That's Green" as well, but the original poster needs an up-tempo song.

I was suggested "So Much Better" from Legally Blonde by a friend of mine. I can't pinpoint why but I have reservations. Any thoughts? And yes, I do need an up-tempo number :)
