I'm not sure if there's a thread on this or not. But anyway, supposedly they were supposed to start shooting in September but the only cast member announced is John Travolta as Edna (still unsure about this). Anyone know of any others? Personally, I hope Marissa isn't Tracy - while being a great actress for the part, I wouldnt want her voice to be on the video that I will watch over and over again, it's already on the CD. Someone like Shoshana or Shannon I would like to see...any other thoughts?

Shoshanna and Shannon are C list Broadway stars, and basically unknowns outside of Broadway. That would never happen.

I don't think New Line would hire Shoshana. Honestly she's in Wicked, but she seems to want to become a recording artist, not a musical star. I'm hoping for Harvey Firestein and a newcomer.

I could be wrong, but didn't she say the only musical she wants to do is Funny Girl? I think I may have misread something.

The thing about "C" list Broadway stars is unfortunately true. Its unfortunate because a great movie could MAKE them a "real" star, but you have to draw people into the theater, and a "name" does that.

That said, I'd love to see Shannon play Tracy, but Chester Gregory, who played Seaweed brilliantly on Broadway until a few weeks ago, is who I'd LOVE to see get reprise his role.

i am not sure about this going to the big screen. The last hairspray movie is not that old and it is a great movie. It is an interesting concept and I hope that it works out. I would be interested in seeing a big name star as Tracy. Am not sure who but I am interested in seeing this but have my reservations.
