Hairspray Movie in Baltimore

They're finished filming the movie.

and I don't even think they filmed in Baltimore at all, but if they did, it was only a scene or two. The bulk of the film was filmed in Toronto.

Though most of the principal cast (John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, etc.) are finished with principal photography, filming continues -- they expect to completely wrap on December 5th (or sooner).

The film is/was shot entirely on location in Toronto -- both interiors AND exteriors. John Waters approved this AND was on location (he has a cameo in the film), and judging by the incredible detail work by the scenic design team, you can not tell one inch of it wasn't shot in Baltimore. Toronto was chosen for economic purposes and because certain areas still resemble the Baltimore of the early 60's, so major exterior work was limited as apposed to the huge overhaul which would have been required if they shot the film in Baltimore.

The film opens nationwide on July 20, 2007.

where were some of you people a few months ago. they announced back then that it was being entirely filmed in Toronto, main reason: it was cheaper than to film in Baltimore. that's why a great amount of films film in Toronto/Canada, it's cheaper.
