Does anyone know if the reviews for Hairspray in Philadelphia are out, and where I can find them? Thanks!

I don't see any up on Philly.com, but I did find this:

You might say the Merriam Theatre's stage was too close for comfort for Jim J. Bullock.

Producers say that's why the veteran sitcom and stage actor skipped Tuesday's Philly premiere of the touring show Hairspray. Bullock has played nebbishy dad Wilbur Turnblad on Broadway and was marking his first show with the road company.

Producers worried that Bullock was unfamiliar with the Merriam's stage setup, which is considerably smaller than the one at the Neil Simon in New York. The load-in was completed only shortly before curtain, and Bullock had no time for a run-through, a spokesman said.

Critics learned about five hours before Tuesday's show that the show's official press opening had been moved to Wednesday. Tuesday night's packed house simply heard an announcement that John Salvatore would play the role.

Bullock - whom younger audiences know from Nickelodeon's Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide and older audiences remember as Monroe on the 1980s sitcom Too Close for Comfort - rehearsed yesterday afternoon in anticipation of last night's show. The run is due to end Sept. 11.

JIm Bullock may be one of the finest and funniest actors around, not to mention that at the stage door, he is so genuine & nice! I got to see him on Broadway and just let me say, Philly you are in for a specail treat! Enjoy!
