"Up In Won" I can't wait to hear your report of Tuesday's show! I think all the new people they are bringing from the tour are fantastic. And Bruce is a great Edna!
I also kind of wish Jim J. Bullock was staying. I saw the show Saturday night and it was my first time seeing him and he was so hilarious!!

Posted: 10/5/04 at 7:55pmI'm puzzled about Jim J. Bullock. I thought he was originally scheduled to leave on Sunday, with Blake Hammond taking over the various male roles this evening. Jim J. is still listed on the Hairspray website though. All the other casting changes have been made. By the way, Jim was very funny.

Oh my fod. First, let me say, out of the fourteen times I've seen the show, this is by far my favorite.
Bruce as Edna: Absolutely amazing. I feel awful fo even thtinking about cmparing him to Harvey, you can't do it. They are two completely different Ednas.
Jordan Ballad as Amber: I loved her! She also has teh cutest dog! Her performance was awesome. Right on the money, can't fault her.
Hollie as Penny: Though I haven't seen Michelle, or the soon to be new Penny, I don't think it would be a stupid idea for them to beg Hollie to stay as Penny. SHe was awesome. Again, a completely different Penny than Jenn and Kerry.
Wilbur: Can't recall his name, and too lazy to grab my Playbill from my room, but he was good. I wasn't blown away, or disappointed by him. He was easily a 'good guy' though.
I know there were other new members, but I just wanted to hit on these guys and gals. They were awesome. ALSO! Carly rocks! She has this little Southern charm, and her accent comes out sometimes, I loved it! Her singing voice is really great too, sort of husky, but in a very good way.
I might be going out on a limb saying this, but I think Hairspray could have opened on Broadway with the cast I saw tonight and still dow just as well as it has.
ALSO! Mary Bond Davis and Jackie were amazing as usual! Bruce had some GREAT one liners. Overall: I LOVED IT.

YEA! I've been dying all day to know how the opening went. I'm thrilled that you liked Bruce and all the new folks.
Wilbur is played by the very talented Todd Sussman whose past roles have included the Tooth Fairy in those Oral B tothbrush ads, and he was also the voice over the PA system on MASH.
Blake Hammond won't be going in as the M A F for another week or so as he'll be playing Edna in Orange County when the tour opens in Costa Mesa, as the current Edna (John Pinette) had a previous engagement for that night.
Hairspray, WOW!

Blake told me a funny story about working on Joseph. I guess at one point, he was a bare chested cow of some sort. He got a laugh out of the fact that the label in the costume read, "FAT COW"
He said he threw a fake tantrum, but was laughing so hard that it didn't really work.

I know Blake was in the B-way production of Joseph, but the production I'm referring to was at the Downtown Cabaret Theatre in Bridgeport, CT. He definitely did not don a cow costume in that one.
You might want to mention the cast photo where all of us are wearing wigs from their 60s review. I still have the picture in a frame on my dresser. I happened to be wearing the Diana Ross wig, and I might add that I looked fabulous!!!
