Hamilton "live lottery" question

#1Hamilton "live lottery" question

Hi! My husband is taking our 14-year-old daughter and her friend to NYC on Weds so they can see the Ham4Ham preshow. I understand they do a live lottery for the matinee that day. I read that only age 18+ can enter the lottery, so only my husband can enter.

IF (big IF, I know), he won, could he buy the two $10 tix and give them to my daughter and her friend to use?

Both are 14 - I didn't know whether he as the adult would be required to attend, in which case none of them could go, since that would leave a 14-year-old outside all by her lonesome.

I appreciate any insight!

No, this is against the rules. The person who wins is given a wristband, pays for the tickets, and asked to return 30 min before the show, at which point they and their companion are escorted directly into the theater.

ETA: They don't need an adult to attend the show itself.

Unless they've changed the rules Yes, if your husband wins he doesn't have to attend the show.  I was at the live lottery two weeks ago and they reinstated "At least one person going must be here to put on the wristband."   One of the two people attending must be present when whoever wins buys the tickets and have the wristband put on. Are you sure the girls can't put their name in too? I have seen children win before they went digital.

I never tried the in person lottery for Hamilton, but my experience on other shows is that as long as they have some sort of ID they should be fine (like a school ID). In other shows I've also had where on the kids ballet they put the parents name in parenthesis. Again as I have not tried Hamilton I do not know what they're policy or how they handle it. Maybe try calling the box office or maybe even tweeting the Hamilton account. Your best bet might be to call the box office though.

Thank you, mpkie, Just_John, and NotReallySilently2!

I'll give the box office a try tomorrow, and I'll be sure to send both girls with their school IDs. It may be that they can find out if they can enter when they get there.

No problem! I think those were the rules but as Just_John described, it may be executed differently in person.

Good luck to them and be safe. It's extremely crowded (understatement!) and they continue to let pedestrian traffic and vehicular traffic through despite the massive crowd. It can be somewhat uncomfortable if you are not prepared with expectations.

Yes, I'm sending my 6'3" husband with them, and both girls have been to NYC Comic Con (and Times Square on a Saturday night!) so they have at least had some experience with the city and the crowds.

Good luck! I won the live lottery back in January and from what I recall, whoever wins has to go to the winner's line. Someone will check your government issued ID and compare it to the lottery slip to make sure the name matches.

Then you line up to pay. You pay $20 cash to the box office, and then the guy who checked your ID will give you a wristband. Since I was definitely attending, he put the wristband on me (look at the profile pic on the left... that's what it looks like.)

When we entered the theater, I'll admit none of the ushers checked my wristband. The person next to me was definitely a high school aged teenager. She went with her mother though. From my cancellation line experience, I recall there was 1 standing room ticket left and a 14 year old girl in front of me took it and saw the show without an adult... so my gut feeling thinks it'll be fine for the two 14 year old girls to see it but I agree to double check with the box office.
