What are the crowds like for a Wednesday afternoon performance? I know that it's not tourist season now and that people have either classes or school during the day (not to mention that today's Yom Kippur.) Do you think the crowd would be as crazy as it has been? Or do the factors I mentioned give off the possibility that it may be a smaller crowd?

Every performance is impossible to win. It may be slightly less crowded on a Wednesday matinee, but it'll still be larger than the average lotto. The smallest I've ever seen it was for a Javilton show, but even then it was huge.

I did the lottery today and won. Was expecting a smaller crowd, due to it being a weekday matinee and a Jewish holiday. I was wrong. Didn't notice a size change in the crowd, and I've been trying after work almost every day in the last few weeks.

Now that the live lottery is back for the Wed matinee, has anyone been to one and what's the crowd like? I don't live close to NYc, but may consider planning a trip there over the summer that includes a Wednesday if there's a reasonable chance to win...

If by "reasonable" you mean about 1000 people you might have a shot. :)

If your intent is to go, enter the Hamilton lotto and, if you lose, turn around and go home, it is a waste of time. If you want to do that in person and, if you lose, you will rush or get a discounted ticket to another show, then sure why not. But I wouldn't make the Hamilton lottery the centerpiece of the trip, since you are then adding disappointment as a factor. But if you hoped to see Hamilton, and had to settle for Fun Home, Disaster, American Psycho, or whatever tickles your fancy? Sounds like a nice day!

Does one have to show up early to get in line for the in person lottery as well? Or if you show up before 12:30, you should be fine...?

Family of 4 there for lottery and Ham4Ham on Wed 4/20. 21 seats were in the lottery and I think 8 standing room only. Right before the lottery started, woman in charge called anyone else who wanted to enter up to the front to fill out a form last minute, so even if you get there late, you SHOULD be able to enter. It seemed like there were probably 300+ people there (reviewing the photos my daughter took, probably more, as there were crowds across the street as well), and she kept telling the crowd to back up off the sidewalk over and over and seemed frustrated people were not listening to her. I can't imagine the live lottery is going to last very long on Wednesdays, crowd control was def an issue for them.
Also, we traveled from Boston and walked by Richard Rodgers many times while in NYC and ALWAYS line sitters in line under the scafolding - even when we arrived on Sunday after matinee had started, so they were there for a long wait!

I just went to the lottery today and got there around 12:26pm and they tried to cut off the line early because they said they wouldn't be able to pull the names at 12:30pm if they waited for everyone who was there to put their names in. I complained that this was a deviation from prior practices and pretty much everyone else gave them hell and the line monitor had to let us all back in the line.
I recommend getting there by 12:20pm if they try to enforce this for upcoming lotteries.
