That'll take awhile to repair. So now we have to ask, do they attempt to reopen in a few months? Or is the show done? Or do they hope another theater becomes available and they can relocate?"
chill out
its way too early for these types of decisions to be made
but u can rest assured they are starting to considerall of these options already
just moving to another theatre is not as simple as you seem to believe
the set was not built for portability and depends on modifications made specifically for the oneill
it is very expensive for a broadway show to move
which is why it is so rare
recently they havenot been making the grosses necessary to justify such an expense
my guess is they will max out their insurance policy and attempt to make a comeback at the oneill
using the fire as a publicity stunt to goose grosses
maybe they’ll evenadd a joke about this inthe script
until then
relax

Are you positive that you passed basic English in school ? Unless you’re E.E. Cummings, please use proper lower and upper case letters as well as spelling words their proper way. Example, replacing the word “you” with the letter “U.”

The Death of the Understudy Slip Apr 5 2026, 02:11:09 PM
Jonathan Cohen said: "Getting rid of understudy slips really drives me nuts, not because I'm against it in a vacuum but The Broadway League is being really selective in what they consider wasteful. At least those slips are giving me information I'll look at. The full color inserts I often get in Playbills reminding me to turn off my phone I'm sure aremore expensive to make and are pretty redundant, as ushers are paid to make the same point."

From the article:
The plans put forward by the Shuberts earlier this month include significant restoration work in the interior. But by far the most exciting detail is the intended annexation of the large empty lot next to the Imperial in order to construct a new ticket lobby, commercial space, and, most importantly, new bathrooms.
Isn’t that vacant lot about to become Magic Mike Live?"
Magic Mike is playing at the old Copacabana. it’s only a couple of doors down from the Lena Horn theatre

Metropolitan Opera's money crunch Jan 21 2026, 09:26:06 AM
I had initially read about all this in an article in the NY Times.
One thing Gelb mentioned is that they are considering was to turn the Met into a concert venue in the offseason. This is during the gap between ABTs season ending and when the Met reopens for the next season. The article mentioned that The Last Ship starring Sting was an example he gave

Playwrights Horizons sued over discount for POC Dec 23 2025, 09:35:17 AM
SteveSanders said: "I know lawsuits against ladies-only happy hour discounts were quite common many years ago and resulted in some state laws against them."
They were. However, they were brought on by disgusting men’s rights organizations. I believe that most of the states that enacted it weren’t blue but I could be wrong.

The Death of the Understudy Slip Dec 17 2025, 12:04:06 PM
I work front of house on Broadway. I can say that I am beyond glad that the QR codes are being used.
Keep in mind a couple of things. One is that, when Playbills arrive at the theatre they come tied up in bundles with 25 playbills in each. Depending on what area I’m seating people in I could easily have to do five bundles which would be 125 playbills. It’s tedious work and I’m glad they are ditching the slips. The number of people who take the slips home a

Yes, and I believe (though I may be mistaken) that Santino Fontana spoke with her for the same reason as Yazbeck. She offered to get constant testing in lieu of getting the vaccine but that didn’t sit well with the rest of the cast. Her idiotic reason for not getting it was that she believed th

Chances of a Strike? Oct 13 2025, 02:02:23 PM
domdomdomdom said: "Surely the Entertainment Community Fund, especially after record-breaking fundraising by Broadway and touring casts this past year, has something set up for the actors and musicians if this strike happens?"
Maybe they do or not (not sure either way.) But, understand that if a strike is called by either union, it impacts more than just the actors or musicians. There are other unions/people impacted as well.

Considering the current economy, I'd think all sides would want to trike a deal to avoid a work stoppage.<

Renée Goldsberry Doc Oct 13 2025, 10:40:49 AM

Someone must have thought so. I mean, it was able to find a distributor post film festival run. Lots of, if not all films that premier at a film festival use that as a platform to find a distribution company that wants to produce a given film. Though, I do think that since it covers her time with Hamilton (along with her winning the Tony) it can get people at least curiou

Renée Goldsberry Doc Oct 13 2025, 10:20:28 AM
I saw it last year when it premiered at The Beacon as part of the Tribeca Film Festival. While yes, Goldsberry is the subject of the documentary. And, while her story is interesting, it also does a fantastic job of pulling back the curtain and showing how hard it can be for a performer to balance work and life. Upon reflection, I feel that, while people may get that the work life balance is hard for someone on Broadway, the documentary shows that it may be more of a challenge to balance than

How do you think the “mega rich celebrities earn their money? They do it via acting.

Jay, first off, the act of an actor on Broadway taking a couple of days off to film a movie or tv show in town is something that routinely happens. It’s no big deal since it is a common occurrence. So yes, it does happen. And, if it’s known ahead of time, the production will post the dates of who’s out and for how long.
