re: Happy 'Mamas' Day

My brother and I took my mum up to see Wicked on Saturday. We drank gin on the train. This man sitting near us said, "Mother's ruin," and laughed like he'd said something hilarious. My mother, as much as I enjoy slagging her off, is wonderful at shutting up people who irritate her. Here's how it went...

Mum pours her little bottle of gin into her plastic cup of tonic.
Man: "Mother's ruin... AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!"
Mum: "I'm sorry?"
Man: "Mother's ruin. Gin."
Mum: "Yes?"
Man: "They call gin Mother's ruin."
Mum: "I know that, but who are you talking to?"
Man: "You."
Mum: "Why?"
Man shuts up and, rather oddly, puts his cap over his face.

It was a good start to what was a perfect M's day.
