Happy 50th Anniversary to BAJOUR

It opened 50 years ago today, at the Shubert Theater. It starred the sensational Chita Rivera as well as Nancy Dussault (in I believe her only starring role) and Hershel Bernardi. The score was by Walter Marks, whose only other theater credit of note is the bloated flop GOLDEN RAINBOW several years later.

WOW! Never saw most of these photos, loved them (and cool to see Virginia Martin, of HOW TO SUCCEED and LITTLE ME fame, when she replaced Nancy Dussault). This was my first opening night, and nearly fell out of my first-row balcony seat when Chita first appeared.

FYI, Nancy did star in THE SOUND OF MUSIC at the end of its long run in 1963, although of course she did not create the role.

Thank you, Mr. Nowack, for this amazing trip back in time. And yes, those rehearsal photos are fabulous!

One of the first shows I saw pre TKTS or papering services. Back in the days, unsold tickets were given to the BOE who distributed them in Public schools for free. This got me started on Broadway . It was an almost 50 year ride. Nice while it lasted

Enjoyed the show. It was not King & I or Oklahoma but it was entertaining . Great choreography, a serviceable score & an young Chita. What more could you ask for. Saw Hershel Bernardi after his Peter Gunn role and also saw Craig Stevens in Here's Love old Pete himself

Thanks for the memories. As a kid, I could barely follow the show's convoluted plot, but the dancing, costumes, and score were a lot of fun.
