Happy Birthday Mr Sondheim...
Genius is ageless but it's still nice to know that some geniuses are not planning on retiring anytime soon! :)

I was going to try to do a paraphrase of "Have an eggroll..." but if I am going to do that justice, I should have started sooner than today. Maybe next year -

I was introduced to Sondheim in November 2005 when the John Doyle-revival of SWEENEY TODD had just opened. I became obsessed with the preview clips on Broadway.com, and then bought the CD, and became obsessed with that too (although I did, like others, think at first that the man never met an very hard-to-get-used-to melody he didn't like).
I soon became interested in his other works, my second being ASSASSINS, and then PASSION, and... well, needless to say, Mr. Sondheim, you are my absolute favorite theater writer, and may you continue to create great works in as much time as you need (whether you be 78 or 101)!

I celebrated by auditioning for the upcoming transfer of Sunday in the Park with George.
Thank you for writing it, Mr. Sondheim - you've created a true masterpiece of modern American Theatre. Happy Birthday!
