I hate to start a new thread. BUT I feel like one of the few RENTheads out there that really LOVES the new movie recording! I for one would not want the movie or the soundtrack to be a carbon copy of the stage version of the show. Everyone is complaining that Adam has lost it and Idina doesnt belt enough. BELTING isnt what makes a show or a score people. I think the new recording sounds wonderful. All of the new tempos, lyrics, harmonies, and orchestrations. I also think most of the original cast has grown as people, actors, vocalists, and artists in the past 10 years. And YES they will sound different and have a completely different approach to recording the soundtrack for a movie. This is one pleased RENThead and I can't wait for November 23rd!! Are there any others....??

I have RENThead tendencies. Whether or not I can take the label is debatable.

I love the recording. I'm not ashamed.

I've rehashed this too many times. I love it, though.

I can't really call myself a RENThead either - I've seen the show once and listened to the OBCR quite a bit, but hardly to the point of memorization. However, even with that amount of familiarity, it was difficult hearing clips of the new versions. The originals have just formed a groove in my brain.

Therefore I've decided not to listen to the new soundtrack or read any more threads about it until the movie comes out. I want to experience this new RENT all in one piece as much as is possible at this point. The soundtrack after seeing the movie will probably seem quite different to me than it would now, not having seen the visuals meant to go with it.

I suppose I am a RENThead to an extent. I saw it once with the original cast in NY and 3 times on tour. Geography kept me from attending an obscene number of shows. I wanted to love the Soundtrack. It's good. I really enjoy some of Rosario's vocals(though some are a tad weak.) I was never a big DRV fan. I don't really like Idina's performance as well as on the OCR. I don't think that "Over the Moon" has the same fun. I think the movie will be great and I'm super excited. The OCR will just always have my heart, I s'pose.

Pretty pretty please don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f**ckin' perfect!

Had this been another recording of the stage show, I may be inclined to say it doesnt keep the stage spirit alive.

However, since movies are far different, I think the recording should be different accordingly. And I love it. It was everything I wanted it to be, and thank goodness they didnt screw anything up. I dont count the line switches or lines left out as "screwing up"

The movie cant come fast enough. :)

I am def a RENThead...btu I LOVE this soundtrack...I would have been disappointed if it had been the same because we have already seen it and what works on stage doesnt work on the screen. I am so excited about this movie...the changes are all amazing!

I also love it. I appreciate the soundtrack for what it is and it does have its own merits. I love the show, but a soundtrack and a cast recording are different things. The cast has had almost a decade to develope as actors and singers, and they can play their characters with a new approach. Film is not the same as theatre and in a musical movie, the cast has to act through their voices. There are some changes I'm not particularly fond of, but there are many that I adore.

I'm not as hardcore a RENThead as some others, but I am one I suppose. And I love the movie soundtrack (I'm listening to it right now, haha). If the soundtrack were exactly like the cast recording or very similar to it, I don't know if I'd enjoy it as much. It needed to sound different for the movie, it's just a fact people have to face. And now I have two different Rents that I can listen to! Haha. Yay.
