My wife and I haven't been to NYC in a couple of years and have finally finalized some dates to go in mid-May. We're trying to decide on the 7th slot and having some trouble. We do plan on seeing:

Promises, Promises
American Idiot
The Addams Family
Lend Me a Tenor
Fences
Next to Normal (hopefully it will still be open wit Alice in the role)

We can't decide between the litany of other shows that will be available then. I think we'd prefer a musical and neither of us wants to see Fela! Is A Little Night Music worth it, or do we see La Cage (which I know hasn't started previews yet) but the London reviews were great and we didn't enjoy the '05 revival. Enron has Norbert and Marin whom we love, but neither of us is thrilled about seeing them in a play which we may not like. I do plan on waiting a little longer to decide because I want to hear how Sondheim on Sondheim is received tonight. Any expert advice you guys have would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Great choices already! I highly recommend "Memphis," I went in knowing nothing about it and I absolutely loved the show! Great music and it's original! You won't be disappointed. If you're looking for just a fun time, "Rock of Ages" is silly and is enjoyable!

Have you considered seeing Hair, it is a fun time too.

If you decide on another play Behanding in Spokane is great and they have offers for for the Wednesday Matinees. Hair also has offers as well.

I saw A Little Night Music and La Cage back to back in London and as a show I would reccomend seeing La Cage first. Night Music is great too and if you've never seen Angela Lansbury live or if you love Catherine Zeta-Jones as much as I do then I would go with that.

It's a non-musical play, but RED is excellent. Hands-down the best thing I've seen in a long time.

Musical-wise, other than some you've already mentioned, I'm just not head over heels about the ones playing now or in the pipeline.

I have watched some video for Memphis and it didn't appear very compelling to us. I do love original music though. Maybe what I saw wasn't very representative. A Little Night Music certainly sounds intriguing due to the performers, but I don't have a strong reason to go just to see them. I love new, compelling plays, but I'm not sure about Red. I know the artist's work and I am not a fan and I've seen Alfred Molina in Fiddler and thought he was horribly miscast in that. Since Hair no longer has it's original cast, I would just see a touring production of it.

Does anyone have any great insight into La Cage with Hodge and I can't wait to hear about Sondheim tonight.

Also, what do you guys think the chances are of Next to Normal still being open in the middle of May with Alice Ripley still in it?

It WAS representative - stay away from it!
