Posted: 8/3/05 at 9:47amI was in a production of "Starmites" here on Long Island with Harris last year. Barry Keating directed in hopes of workshopping it and reproducing it. Nothing came of it except lousy reviews. But Harris truly is wonderful. And beautiful.

Wait ..... you DO know that Hair was originally a long-running Broadway musical from the 60s (the first successful rock musical), right?
Anything that plays in a Broadway house is technically a "Broadway show." Doesn't automatically mean it would be Tony-eligible (one night only concerts aren't), but Broadway is Broadway.

I love him singing "hair" with Raul. He sounds great!
Rath-You saw him Opposite of Sex? Did he play opposite Kerry Butler? I thought the guy who played Tulsa in the Gypsy revival played opposite KB. Help a sista out!

Posted: 8/4/05 at 1:49amWhile we're on the subject of Harris -- who is one of my very favorite performers -- did anyone here see him in Oliver at Deaf West Theatre? His bio says that he was nominated for an Ovation Award for it, and I loved the Deaf West production of Big River, so I'd love to hear about him and the show.

Didn't know that
but just makes him more interesting
what role did he play in OLIVER?
and what is he up to now?
is He still "attached" to one of B'way's
up and coming bright lights?

Margo,
I DO know that Hair was a broadway show. I was wondering is the concert that was done considered a broadway show? I think people also put " A Christmas Carol" as A broadway show. I personally don't think getting invited to do a benefit concert should be in the same league as auditioning your ass off to be in a production contract broadway show. I think that if you are in a concert, benefit, cabaret, it should be listed as such.
My 2 cents.

Posted: 8/4/05 at 9:17amWhile it IS on ibdb, it is listed as a benefit concert quite clearly. And Harris does audition his ass off, like everyone else. Nothing to get worked up about really.

"A Christmas Carol" is NOT a Broadway show. It's never played in a Broadway house (it plays at MSG every year) and thus isn't a Broadway show.
Virtually anything that plays in one of the officially designated Broadway houses can be legitimately termed a "Broadway show" -- concerts, solo shows, mime, dance, stand up comedy, etc... But, if a show doesn't play an 8 show week and provide a complimentary pair of tickets to each of the 750+ Tony voters (plus a few other things) it can't be Tony-eligible.
