All That Chat board down

I have to say that I'm surprised at the hostility to ATC that has been shown in this thread. I've been reading ATC regularly for at least ten years; while there have always been disagreements as there are in any large and diverse community, I have found the forum very informative and have had great interactions with people from ATC, online and in real life.

Although I do not know the organisation's current financial situation, I have no trouble believing that those organising it are (s

Thanks, HummingAlong! That sounds very exciting.

I hope that mine turns up in the mail in the next few days.

New Kerrigan and Lowdermilk CD
 Jan 15 2011, 10:49:16 PM
I'm getting very impatient to get my hands on the Kerrigan and Lowdermilk CD. Has anyone here heard it yet?

I found the Vienna Teng version of Say the Word that someone put online on Wednesday - and it's great! - but I am very eager to hear more

I'm going and I'm really excited about it. They are raising money for good causes, and it sounds like the whole thing will be lots of fun. I hear that there will be audience participation (with prizes).

I'm still trying to figure out if I want to participate, if possible, or avoid participating

re: Harris Doran

While we're on the subject of Harris -- who is one of my very favorite performers -- did anyone here see him in Oliver at Deaf West Theatre? His bio says that he was nominated for an Ovation Award for it, and I loved the Deaf West production of Big River, so I'd love to hear about him and the show.

I have to jump in and add a "me too" about this wonderful show. I don't think I can really add any detail about the show itself to what MargoChanning said so well, but I too must single out the gorgeous Harris Doran, who was just radiant in this show (he is such a star). That being said, the whole cast -- including Ken Barnett and Vanessa Hadary, who plays a number of very different roles incredibly well -- is incredibly talented and versatile.

As MargoChanning also mentioned, the s

I know people who study or have studied with Liz Caplan, and they all say wonderful things about her.

I was there tonight too, and I just loved the show. So much of it was so funny, and yet it was also quite touching. I hope to get to see this one performed again soon.
re: Blood Brothers

I saw BLOOD BROTHERS in London last summer. I loved it. Yes, it's melodramatic, but it was done with a tremendous amount of commitment -- and some of the best acting I have seen in a musical.

I love the way the music fits so well with the drama. It's very "angsty" at times, and exuberant at other times, but the music always contributes to the storytelling.

I hope to see an equally good production of the show (perhaps the same one) again sometime soon.

re: Hedwig and the Angry Inch

cabarethed, I sure did (about 10 times, I think). He was an excellent, well-rounded Hedwig -- meaning that he was funny, emotionally powerful, and a great singer. He was unflappable, and really great at keeping the drama of the role real.

Matt was Hedwig on closing night. He stayed focused the whole time, but gave an amazing performance. That final performance -- especially the last few scenes, and Midnight Radio, which he did with the name-substitution that has been used on a few

I am another huge fan of HEDWIG. I prefer the stage version, although I love the movie too.

I think that what makes the stage version even better than the movie is the intimacy of it all. There is something particularly powerful about being confronted with the "gory details" (which are somewhat darker in the stage version) in a small, interactive setting, and there is something beautiful and touching about being told the story directly and personally. And on a simpler level, just h

re: Buying tickets to the tonys
 Feb 28 2005, 02:11:09 AM
I think (based only on memory) that tickets usually go on sale the morning nominations are announced, in early May.

The seats are really far from the stage, but I would agree with the others who have said that getting the balcony seats is worthwhile, at least once. In some ways, the experience is frustrating -- because you don't see as much as you would on TV, and you can't do the talking (and eating) that you could do elsewhere -- but it's really fun to cheer along, and to be surround

re: Idina in Aida?
 Feb 23 2005, 03:14:29 AM
Idina's first show was Thursday, September 13th, 2001. It was supposed to be September 11th, but of course the shows on the 11th and 12th were cancelled. Heather Headley's last show had been the 9th (after Broadway on Broadway), and Taylor Dayne's the 8th (Felicia Finley went on for Heather's last show).

I was there on the 13th, with a ticket that I bought on the 12th or 13th. As you can probably imagine, the theatre was very empty -- but there was something heart-warming to see so m

re: The Last Session

Add me to the list of people who would recommend this show, which I have seen in a few different places.

The fascinating thing about THE LAST SESSION is that it is a moving show that brings a lot of people to tears, but it's also frequently really, really funny. Even when you already know the jokes.

It's definitely worth seeing.

Thanks for mentioning this, iflitifloat. I saw THE ALTRUISTS at the Vineyard a few years back and really enjoyed it -- and I thought that BEAUTIFUL CHILD was great too. This one might be worth a look.

I too say do it and get the double CD. The music sounds great and the singing is so energetic (for lack of a better word) -- it's worth it to have the whole thing.

SPOILER -- but apparently an explanation is needed

The "costume" at the end of the Mendes version of Cabaret is what was worn by people in concentration camps. See the link below for more information.

I'm also glad that Dan Bacalzo was so enthusiastic about Harris Doran. I found Harris Doran completely compelling in the role.

I'm another person who thoroughly enjoyed the show. I love that the script is so intelligent, and funny. And I had a great time watching such a gorgeous and talented cast bring it to life.

re: John Tartaglia's Final Performance
 Jan 31 2005, 12:33:57 AM
I was there too. I am delighted that I was.

I don't know that I can add too much about the show itself that hasn't already been said. But I do want to mention the wonderful dynamic tonight, of a cast with tons of talent and tons of heart (tonight as every night) putting an incredible amount of energy into performing for an audience that seemed thoroughly invested in showing love and support right back.

The audience was extremely loud, but incredibly well-behaved: there was
