I can't believe that this wasn't already the subject of multiple threads.

Harvey Fierstein?
So, because they hadn't mentioned it, means that it wasn't known before? I love playbill, but I hardly find this "news."
Yeah, this isn't really NEWS. They did a reading a few months back and Cyndi Lauper starred in it.
I agree. People had rumors about it, demanded it. They brought it up before. People expected this to eventually happen.
I guess it's great that it's finally getting a stage show. How long has it been since the movie came out? 20 years... almost?
I hadn't heard about it. I'm in the camp that thinks this just isn't a very good property. Despite having a strong score the movie was just a chore to sit through.
A paperboy strike just isn't all that compelling.

I'm not really a huge fan of the movie myself, still have never seen it all the way through. But since it seems that this title (along with Hocus Pocus) often becomes a dominant feature of any "What Should Disney Do on Stage Next?" thread, I figured it would be of interest to finally see some people speaking in a semi-official manner about it.
I just think Disney is quickly looking to replace Mary Poppins since the theater is only half-sold most of the time. The New Amsterdam Theater deserves to have a show in it that will fill (more) seats...
BTW I heard that Mary Poppins has about 1.5 more years left in her.
Do you think that's enough time to get Newsies ready to go in there?
