OMG! I did NOT expect the show to be like this!

So Harvey was in the audience tonight. (Harvey Fierstein for those who aren't quite that gay (which is odd cause I'm straight)).

ANYWAY, here is the non-spoiler version followed by the spoiler version:

NON-SPOILER: In Act II, after the three are gone, Harvey's laugh was distinguishable.

**SPOILER**: In Act II when the lights go up and reveal all the dead bodies and the blood and body parts all over, there was minutes of laughter before the first lines of the scene could even be spoken. Towards the end of the laughter, Harvey was still laughing, and it was SOOO noticeable that it was Harvey. It was great!

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

did you like the show?

I thought act 1 was ok but loved Act 2. I was expecting act 1 to be lacking because Martin's irish plays always have slow act ones.

Act I was fine. Sweeney Todd's first act was more lacking than Inishmore.

I love this show. Martin is a genious. One of my favorite playwrights ever.

Much as I loved "History Boys," this show just keeps staying in my mind far more. Absolutely brilliant.

I am a big one for etiquette in the theatre, yet I actually screamed w and hit myself on the head at the end of this show...I felt like SUCH an idiot.

beyond brilliant.

I thought Harvey was doing Hairspray in Vegas. Has it closed already?

Off Topic: I REALLY wanna see this but not without Brian d`Arcy James...when does he leave?

Love. It.

And Brian D'Arcy doesn't really have that big of a part, I honestly don't think you would miss him all that much.

The play really wouldn't suffer from his loss (or rather your enjoyment of it). I'm not saying he's a bad actor, just that his character isn't that big a part of it.

I thought the scenes between the two guys (the old guy and the kid) were slow but otherwise there was a lot of interesting stuff in the first act.

Yeah, but "the kid" was hysterical! I liked act 2 better but didn't dislike act 1. I really liked it.

Off-topic, but yes, NathanLane, Hairspray in Vegas has closed, but Harvey didn't do the whole run.

Sigh. I miss Hairspray.

"The stage is where I live and come alive and act out all the things that go on in my life. It's not just what I do for a living, it's my shrink and my love affair. No one in my life has ever or ever will kiss me on the mouth like this lover called my relationship with my performance."

Okay! Thanks!

Are you sure about not missing Brian? I LOVE him! When does he leave?
