Great question. I've been a fan of the movie "The Producers" since I was a teenager and have always wondered if there was someway that scheme could actually work in real life (not that I'd ever try such a thing OF COURSE). I know the short answer is, "Oh no, there are too many controls in place, monitors, auditors, agencies etc..... that it would be impossible," but in this era of Worldcom and Health South and Tyco et al getting away with hiding millions and billions in losses for YEARS without anyone -- not the SEC, the IRS, not their accountants -- discovering the fraud, who's a say that a couple of shrewd yet corrupt producers of a little $10 million musical couldn't cook the books and walk away with a very nice profit.
Compared to the billion dollar schemes that people have gotten away for years at a time on Wall Street, fixing a Broadway show's finances sounds like child's play (I wonder whether Ken Lay or Dennis Koslowski have any interest in producing musicals?).
For all we know, it may be going on as we speak. Of course, I'm just saying all of this hypothetically (lest anyone reading this gets the notion that I need to be "bumped off" or something -- I know nothing, I see nothing).

"Not sure what's up, but Wicked is not even remotely close to closing.. Though we'll have to see what happens after Idina leaves."
I'm not sure if this has been posted or not.. but if you look at the Wicked website, it says that the show is going to be running through like May or June 2005. I don't know if that's true or not.. but that's what it says in the FAQ.

(From the Wicked website) "How long will the show be running & how far out are tickets on sale?
The show is open-ended and tickets are currently on-sale thru May 8, 2005."
---
This means they have released tickets for sale up that date. If I'm not mistaken, Producers generally release seats in blocks or segments of time. Anyone want to add to this?
