Hi all,
I was just wondering if anyone has had luck with Telecharge, Ticketmaster with refunding tickets in the event of an emergency. Im supposed to be flying into New York City for my birthday Feb 23-27, but unfortunately my grandmother has fallen gravely ill, and no telling if I can make the trip. I have tickets to The Book of Mormon, Porgy and Bess, Anything Goes, and Godspell. Do I have any shot of a refund or will it be a total loss? Im in Toronto, so its not like I can head to the box office and hand them to a friend.

I don't know about refunds but I do know some other things you can try if that doesn't work.
Do you plan on rescheduling your trip? If so you might be able to past date a few of those shows.
Also the other thing you can try is talk to the box office and see if you can leave the tickets at the box office in someone elses name, that way you can either sell them on here or if you have any friends here they can buy them from you.
Best wishes to you grandmother, I hope she gets better.

I have been very fortunate in dealing with ticketing services as well as box offices when emergency has struck. It is definitely worth contacting them. You may get refunds or credits; sometimes you have to talk to more than one person in order to be successful, but don't give up!
Also, in a pinch, you could sell your tickets, of course.
Sorry to hear about your grandmother. Hope you and your family are doing as well as possible.
P.S. I forgot to say...just tell your story. The truth has never failed me.

Thanks for the suggestions....Im hoping to make it there, but its looking unlikely....I do have another trip planned in May, but I have already bought all of my tickets (I usually come in twice a year, for my birthday, and I bring my mother for hers)....I hope I get someone understanding on the phone....

Oh dear, that sounds pricey. I don't have any wisdom to impart, but I'm sorry for your situation. Peace to you and your family, and I hope Ticketmaster (et al) is cooperative!

I've never done it, but you could resell your "Book of Mormon" ticket on StubHub.com and probably fetch a decent price for it. I know of at least one person who bought a BOM ticket that way, paid through the nose for it, and feels they absolutely got their money's worth.
You may even make up your entire loss that way.
And - sorry about your Grandmother and what your family is going through. Didn't mean to sound too flippant above. I know it's probably the worst reason to have to cancel what would be a fun trip. I've certainly been there, and send my best thoughts. Good luck.

Posted: 2/5/12 at 8:44amI had tickets to Anything Goes when my mother was ill in the hospital. I had them post-dated. It was a nuisance. I had to call telecharge everyday after 12pm to see if they would honor the tickets for that day's performance. The tickets were originally for March, and they wouldn't honor them until September! I suggest putting them on ebay to sell, and then purchase new tickets for another time.
