Has anyone here heard 'Thrill Me: The Story of Leopold and Loeb'?
#0Has anyone here heard 'Thrill Me: The Story of Leopold and Loeb'?
Posted: 6/21/05 at 1:32amCame across this oddball looking musical while browsing tonight, and it sort of interested me that someone would write a musical based on the infamous "thrill killers". What I normally try to do is download some of the music and then buy the CD if I really like it, but Thrill Me seems to be exceedingly obscure, which shouldn't be all that surprising. What I'm trying to figure out is if anyone here has heard it before, and if so, is it worth it to buy the CD? I'm sure I can get it off of amazon.com or whatnot. Thanks for your help guys.

Posted: 6/21/05 at 1:35am"Thrill Me" is a chamber musical with a ton of potential... unfortunately, it's still in need of quite a bit of work. I don't think that the cast recording does an adequate job of portraying the material in the best light, either. It's a little stale. In any case, I'd recommend it to anyone who is interested in discovering new material and unusual subject matter.

There are 2 recordings of the score. Get the newest one, which is better quality and more complete. I believe the 1st is a concept/studio cast while the 2nd is from an actual production of the show.
I like the music of the show, but the lyrics are sometimes trivial and obvious.
The show works much better on stage than on disc. The current (I believe it's still running, maybe not) NYC production was great, with 2 great performances, and detailed direction by Michael Rupert.
I know people who love the score, and some who hate hate hate it. Just depends on your tastes. I like the score and the build he creates through the action and characters.

I agree with pretty much everything that has been said. The score has quite a lot of potential, but it needs major work.
The production is still playing.
