I was at the workshop last night. The lyrics were disastrous, but the score was incredible. I didnt really notice any "dialogue" to be honest, it just proceeded from song to song to song, and I thought it worked fairly well.

The cast was ok, considering they are all Harvard undergrads - loved Tatiana Wilson as the Mother, who was fantastic, and whoever played the brother was also incredible.

They did it as a concert last night...the show really really needs a strong book for it to work at all, which was a problem last night. It was directed by Mary Birnbaum and musical directed by John Drake. It was overall a talented cast, but I agree that special recognition should be given to Michael Joyce as the brother and their mother.

And the guy who played Chuck Bean was hot.

Hey Penguin--Just for the record, Company was GREAT both times I saw it--with Elaine Stritch AND with Raul Esparza! I also enjoyed SA, GG, Curtains, Drowsy, and probably most of what I see, but I found Little Women and Bright Lights both to be really boring, and so did the people I went to the shows with...as good as the songs and singers were in those two productions, they couldn't seem to make up for the scripts, which was really unfortunate.

Drowsy is a great show too! I can't wait to see it on tour.

I saw the show in Philly too many times, yeah the story might have been lacking, but it was still a fun show and told what it had to in the time frame.

If their stories went a little deeper, we might have gotten to know the characters more and sympathize more.

I really liked all of their voices more than the ones on the CR.

i didn't find the lyrics to be lacking AT ALL. in fact, the songs that Christine Ebersole sings get me almost everytime. i do think it reminds me a bit of "Hair" at points with the whole "Wordfall" at the end but my major problem is the book. there has to be more of a throughline than just "this is all going on in Jamie's head, these are the people who are in Jamie's head". seriously.

and if that IS the case, than why when Jamie gets all nervous and scared he may black out, doesn't the stage go black or something? it just didn't make sense...

the songs mimic other showtunes but i think the score is the strongest thing going for it.
