Thinking of seeing this while in DC for Follies. I haven't attended Signature prodcutions before, but I know they are known for their Sondheim (winning a Tony for regional theater a couple of years ago.)

Reviews I've found are good but the video doesn't impress me. Has anyone seen this and, if so, what is your reacton. Thanks!

I saw it on Thursday and I absolutely loved it. I had very low expectations going in, since it's only a cast of 3, and the orchestra consisted of two piano players. But it was great. The performances were perfect, and it was worth the $15 cab ride to the theater. Definitely go see it.

Thanks xoffender for the feedback.

Was the house full or nearly? I'm wondering if I need to purchase tickets ahead of time. Seems like a pretty intimate space where any seat would be ok. Is this true?

Also, glad it was worth your cab ride cost. I'm assuming you also paid for a ticket (Prices are ~$70 per ticket, so you must think it was worth that + $15 for the cab!) Right?

The house was by no means sold out, but again, I went on a Thursday evening performance. Not sure how bad it gets on the weekends. But yes, the theater was very intimate. I had second row seats and they couldn't have been more perfect, but with the exception of seeing Matthew Scott in his underwear, there's really no reason to be that close.

And yes, I paid for my own full price ticket, plus cab fare, and am very glad I did. I was in DC for the first time ever, only for Follies, so this was a very special added bonus. Plus, I kinda loved the artwork for the show enough to buy a window card and t-shirt (which I'll likely never wear).

I'm going this weekend.

Also, you don't have to take a cab to get to Signature. There are several buses from the Pentagon Metro stop that go to Shirlington Transit Center, which is a block or two from the theatre.

That's true, KChenowethfan. According to the Signature's website:

The closest Metro stop to Signature is Pentagon City. From there, Signature Theatre is only a short taxi ride away. A taxi stand is located in front of the Ritz Carlton Hotel. The fare is approximately $12.
The Pentagon Bus Terminal is steps from Pentagon Metro station. From the bus terminal, the 7A, 7F, 25A and 25D buses can be taken to the Shirlington Transit Centre, around the corner from the Theatre. The Transit Centre is the first stop on the bus from Pentagon. Buses arrive approximately every 10 to 15 minutes.

What I really meant by "it was worth the cab fare" was that I had taken a nap and overslept, so any hope of taking public transportation was out of the question, so i had to take a cab over. But I'm glad I did!

I've seen 'Side by Side by Sondheim' at the Signature. It's very good and worth attending. This is the theatre where Eric Schaffer, the Kennedy Center 'Follies' director comes from. The cast & cabaret style program are great. Also many eateries nearby and a great cupcake place adjacent the theater.

Check out the DC area half price TicketPlace online & in downtown DC for advance & day of ticket discounts. ...It's like TKTS in NYC or Leciester Sq.

It's really variable if Signature has seats available at a discount there.

Cheers

I really enjoyed the show and the cast of 3 are fabulous. Here's an interview I did with Matthew Scott and Nancy Anderson.
